State Policy Initiatives

PNJ made policy recommendations to Governor Murphy's administration that the organization hopes will result in a renewed commitment to the state's historic assets.  In a memo issued to Murphy's transition team, PNJ provided the new administration with insights into the benefits of enacting a statewide historic preservation tax credit program.

Since the memo was sent, the Assembly and Senate both introduced the "Historic Property Reinvestment Act". In addition, the Report of the Urban and Regional Growth Transition Advisory Committee to Governor Murphy includes a recommendation to purse a NJ historic preservation tax credit, including justifications put forth in PNJ's original memo. PNJ and our partners will continue working with the Legislature and Administration to move this important preservation policy forward in the next year.

One of the most effective ways of sharing information with Congress is through direct meetings, and Advocacy Week is Preservation Action's annual opportunity to have a mass impact on opinion leaders and policy makers. At a time when the Historic Tax Credit is threatened by tax reform efforts, and the Historic Preservation Fund continues to face difficult budgets, your voice is needed more than ever. Together with a cohesive message in support of preservation-positive legislation we can ensure a strong future for the federal historic preservation program.
