COOKIES COURAGEOUS: ON THEIR WAY!

And they're off!! This week we sent off the final packages of the over 600 packs of cookies that were collected during Cookies Courageous.  I, ( Rae Myles, Missions Assistant) just wanted to share what David, Lisa and I experienced this week at the UPS store when we brought in three huge (over 100 lbs each!) boxes of cookies to send.

When we arrived this week, the woman who helped me mail the first box earlier this week looked up, smiled and said "You've got another one!" I told her no, we have 3 more and then we're done! She remembered that we are sending cookies to be sent to the troops, and when another employee came out to help, they both thanked us for remembering our troops.

Then other employees came out to help weigh the heavy boxes, and as they did they shared their thankfulness for our church's generosity in donating so many cookies. Instead of sighing with the heavy packages and hard to manage loads, everyone was smiling and talking about how excited the troops would be when they received cookies from home.

Each person thanked us personally for our efforts. The clerk gave us a (small) discount and also asked us to keep his nephew, Capt. Jason Hill, Army Chaplain, in our prayers - he is currently stateside but soon will redeploy to Iraq.

The cookies should all arrive at SupportOurTroops.org in Tampa by Thursday (Today!) at the latest, and the folks there will ship them overseas to various military bases.

Many thanks to everyone who donated and helped with our Cookies Courageous efforts!

The Wesleyan Small Group - facilitated by John Hammer
John Wesley's original small groups focused on a single question: how is your relationship with God?  The mutual encouragement in these groups led to spiritual growth; Wesley (in England) and Asbury (in the US) both insisted that these groups were essential to the Methodist movement.  During the period where small groups were widely practiced, the US Methodist movement grew from a few thousand to a few million people.  Recently, a UM church in Florida found that 98% of new members continued to attend small groups.  Clearly, something powerful happens in these small groups.  This eight meeting course will cover the history, theology, and practice of the Wesleyan small group.

All Things New - Women's Bible Study by Kelly Minter - facilitated by Debbie Adams
In "All Things New: A Study of 2 Corinthians," Kelly Minter will lead you through the Letter of 2 Corinthians over 8 sessions, exploring the anchoring truths of bearing treasures in jars of clay, meeting Christ through a pressing thorn, opening wide your heart in the midst of hurtful relationships, and what it means to embrace the lost and lonely as ministers of the new covenant. Each of us has a message to proclaim and live by: Because of Jesus the old has gone, the new has come .

Spiritual Gifts Study - facilitated by Eddie Bradford
More info to come!

Untold Blessing - facilitated by Mickey Stanfield
Welcome to Bishop Robert Barron's look at the journey to sanctity!  This program is designed to help you understand and live out what you learn from Bishop Barron's insights into the three paths to holiness.   The aim is to increase understanding, promote reflection, and encourage practical action. Use this study to assess and enhance your life as a disciple of Jesus  Christ. The guide is built around QUESTIONS FOR UNDERSTANDING, which summarize Bishop Barron's key teaching points and QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION, which ask you to reflect on this teaching and apply it to your daily life.

Missions

HeartReach Evangelism
Shelley Carr, Chair
Stephen Ministry
Sometimes we just need someone to listen. Stephen Ministers are lay members of the congregation who have received over 50 hours of training in how to listen empathetically, non-judgmentally, and
most important, lovingly with the heart of Christ. We all go through so many changes and situations in our lifetime: retirement, involuntary job loss, death of a family member, diagnosis of a serious illness, depression. And often during those times we don't need or want someone telling us what to do, but to
hear us as we talk about how these situations have affected us, wounded us, changed us, or even provided new opportunities. If you feel that you could use a friend to care and to listen, to encourage, and pray with you and for you (at your request), please know that we are available for you. For more information, contact  Rev. Brenda Westmoreland -  bwestmoreland2583@att.net  or Murlene Dubay at  770-449-1478 .
