NCI has partnered with Washington University's Social System Design Lab to
gain a more 
in-depth understanding of the leverage points or emotions that are driving the perceptions of North County.  The SSDL system looks at things such as specific reasons for perception and reinforcing motivators. This information will assist NCI in a more strategic approach with our marketing messages and scope of work.

REINVEST NORTCOUNTY FUND

On Wednesday, November 16, a news conference was held thanking donors who funded small businesses and four school districts during the civil unrest in Ferguson, August 2014. Funding provided by the St. Louis Regional Business Council, North County Incorporated, the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation and many others, totaled $943,078.34.

Our North County schools have made fantastic progress this year and it is reflected on their most recent Missouri Annual Performance Review Scores.

GREAT NEWS FOR NORTH COUNTY! 

MoDOT would like to hear from you.  As a project that NCI, its many members and North County Mayors have been community advocates for the past 10 years we are excited to share that MoDOT has announced that the I-270 North Environmental Assessment has been approved by MoDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  The EA details the Preferred Alternative for improving I-270 from I-70 on the west to the Chain of Rocks Bridge on the east. It is the result of years of study to address congestion, safety and mobility, as well as accessibility and aging infrastructure along I-270, while minimizing impacts to the human and natural environment. 

MoDOT will host a public hearing on Thursday, December 15, 2016 as the final public event for the I-270 North Environmental Assessment (EA). The hearing will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria/commons area at McCluer High School, 1896 S. New Florissant Road, Florissant, Mo 63031.  Feel free to stop by anytime to review the EA and Preferred Alternative, ask questions of the study team and to provide feedback. You will be able to give your input either in writing, electronically or to a court reporter. If you are unable to attend, written comments regarding the EA can be mailed to: Ed Hassinger, Chief Engineer, MoDOT, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, MO 65102. The City of Florissant will hold a Sharing and Caring Food Drive from December 2-16. Donation barrels will be placed at the Florissant City Hall, James J. Eagan Center and the JFK Community Center.
Grace Lutheran Chapel will host a Candlelight Coffeehouse Concert on Friday, December 2 featuring the bands iwitness and Suspicious Minds. Doors open at 6pm. Admission is a freewill donation for the Lutheran Hope Center in Ferguson. MORE INFO
Greater North County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Nite of Stars Holiday Gala on Friday, December 2 in the Atrium at Christian Hospital. SAVE THE DATE!
The City of Florissant will hold Christmas in Old Town on Saturday, December 3 from 2:00-5:30pm. There will be a visit from Santa, and other kids activities. The annual tree lighting ceremony will take place on the City Hall front lawn at 5:15pm. MORE INFO

UMSL's Master of Public Policy Administration Program will host Joe Reagan as he presents his vision for the revitalization of St. Louis and the region on Tuesday, December 6 at the JC Penney Conference Center Room 404 beginning at 6pm. Registration is required. MORE INFO

SSM Health  Orthopedics will offer a free seminar about knee pain on Thursday, December 8 at the May Conference Center from 6:00-8:00pm.

The City of Ferguson  will host its first annual Pinewood Classic at the Ferguson Community Center on Saturday, December 10 starting at 1pm. Shape a block of wood into a sleek racing machine or showcase creativity in the design competition. MORE INFO
The City of Florissant will have a Visit with Santa on Saturday, December 10 at Sunset Park Nature Lodge from 9:00-10:30am. Tickets require a resident card and $1 or canned food donation and are available at JFK or JJE centers. Light refreshments will be provided.

Challenger Learning Center will hold the 2017 Inspiring Teacher Celebration on January 26 at UMSL's ED Collabitat Space from 5:00-7:00pm to celebrate teachers who have inspired the current and future generations of explorers and innovators. The City of Florissant will hold their annual Valley of Flowers Festival from May 5-7, 2017. This year's theme will be Wonders of the World. Queen and court candidates, parade units, sponsors, and booths are needed for this event. EVENT WEBSITE
The City of Florissant will hold their Sharing and Caring Food Drive. Beginning on Friday, December 2nd  - December 16th  a  barrel for the Sharing and Caring Food Drive will be placed at the Florissant City Hall, the James J. Eagan Center (Parker and Waterford Roads) and the JFK Community Center (Howdershell and Charbonier).  We encourage all residents to donate non-perishable and canned food donations.  These donations will be given to organizations and food pantries within the city limits of Florissant. Press Release
The City of Florissant is holding its annual Letters From Santa program for the community's children. Santa will respond with personal letters throughout the holiday season beginning Tuesday, November 1. Normandy Schools Collaborative's has earned 76.5 of a possible 140 points on the state Annual Performance Report (APR) which is equivalent to a "Provisionally Accredited" level. This is a significant accomplishment and a result of the hard work of the staff, families, and most importantly the students. Press Release
Ferguson-Florissant School District's McCluer North HS has named Amber Tate as Student-Athlete of the Month and Saniah Savala as Athlete of the Month for October. PRESS RELEASE
Ferguson-Florissant School District's results from the 2016 Missouri Annual Performance Report (APR) show an increase in the district's overall score. Ferguson-Florissant received 98.5 points out of a possible 140 points on the state's annual assessment, or 70.4 percent.  Ferguson-Florissant remains fully accredited. Press Release
Hazelwood School District's Robotics Teams have been awarded $14,500 in grants from the Monsanto Fund.
The money received through this grant will help with supplies and parts for the robots, along with paying for registration fees for competitions.

Hazelwood School District students Chantrel Clayton and Kenedee Rainbolt won the annual fire safety essay contest sponsored by the Hazelwood Fire Protection District and earned a special ride to school on a fire truck. PRESS RELEASE
Hazelwood School District announced that the district's Annual Performance Report (APR) yielded positive trends. The district has earned 120.5 out of 140 possible points as shown in the table below covering 2015-2016 school years. The district continues to be fully accredited with one school earning 100% of the total points possible. PRESS RELEASE
Jennings School District would like to thank every adult and youth for aiding us to achieve 80.4% of the Annual Performance Report (APR), which is one of the highest scores in North County and the region. Special mention is necessary for Jennings Senior High for making history and scoring 91%+ on the APR, which is within the "accredited with distinction" range for districts of 90%.
Pattonville School District continues to rank among high performing public school districts in the St. Louis region based on the state's annual performance report(APR). Pattonville earned a score of 94.6 percent out of 100 on the 2016 APR released by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). PRESS RELEASE

Ritenour School District Superintendent Dr. Chris Kilbride recently was appointed to the EducationPlus¬ģ Board of Directors. Dr. Kilbride will serve a four-year term . PRESS RELEASE

Ritenour School District  remains fully accredited based on its score on the 2016 annual performance report from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  Using information from the 2015-2016 school year, Ritenour earned 71.4 percent of the total possible points under the state's scoring system, called the Missouri School Improvement Plan - fifth cycle. Press Release

Superintendent of Riverview Gardens School District since 2013 and NCI Board Member, has been recognized by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments for the outstanding work he has done to improve the lives of the at-risk students in his district by partnering with food banks, support services, and providing additional transportation opportunities. This has led to increased attendance, fewer disciplinary problems, and more students obtaining college scholarships.  

Riverview Gardens School District has made incredible academic progress the last two years. The State of Missouri has recognized this sustained progress by giving the school district full accreditation for the first time in ten years.This year the district earned 74.6 percent on its annual APR score from the state. 

Riverview Gardens School District kept its doors open during this Thanksgiving holiday to serve Thanksgiving meals for the second year in a row to make sure that no one was forgotten this Thanksgiving. FOX 2 NEWS VIDEO
The City of Hazelwood has partnered with Habitat for Humanity St. Louis to  acquire  
vacant homes and lots and construct new homes. The City acquired 11 lots on which 12 homes will be built. Structures on eight of these properties will need to be demolished. The City has completed two of them so far. MORE INFO

St. Louis Crisis Nursery raised a record breaking $120,000 at the 11 th Annual Over the Top for Tots event.  Mistress of Ceremonies was KMOV's Claire Kellett. The event benefited the Nursery's Healing Hearts Program, which provides art and play therapy for children who need help mending their broken spirits. PRESS RELEASE

UMSL has been named 'Best for Vets' for the third year in a row by Military Times. 
Ranked No. 39 among 125 on last year's list, the new 2017 rankings put UMSL at No. 40 out of 130 top schools. That's out of more than 500 colleges that took part in the detailed survey on which Military Times based its evaluation. PRESS RELEASE

The Federation of Catholic Schools Northeast Deanery
held fine arts experiences for students in grades 5-8 on November 15 and 17. The students had the opportunity to watch a performance of "New Kid" and have a live Q&A session with the actors.

City of Florissant is accepting election filings for the April 4, 2017 election for City Council Wards 2, 4, 6, and 8. Candidates may obtain the necessary forms from the City Clerk on or after January 3 at the Florissant City Hall. Petitions must be returned to the City Clerk by Tuesday, January 17.

Jennings School District hosted the first STEM Games competition with schools from around the area in November. This all day event provided a hands-on learning opportunity focused on science, technology, engineering, and math for 90 students from the City of St. Louis, North County, and St. Charles County. Ritenour School District students and staff members are making the holiday season happier for families in need throughout the district after collecting more than 18,000 nonperishable food items and turkeys. PRESS RELEASE

St. Louis Community College Workforce Solutions Group offers no-cost and low-cost accelerated training programs for job seekers - individuals that are unemployed or underemployed, 18 years of age and older, and have their high school diploma or equivalent. Many programs are offered during daytime hours. MORE INFO

St. Louis Community College in partnership with Boeing, offers accelerated pre-employment programs to train individuals for potential jobs as assembly mechanics and composite mechanics within Boeing. St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger  ha s released a statement on Boeing's

St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger has asked  the County Council to place a proposition on the April, 2017 ballot to provide additional funds to improve police and public safety in St. Louis County. The funds would come from a one-half of one-cent increase in the sales tax. MORE INFO
