Great Week for Summer Safety Camp

Eighteen North Shore incoming 4th graders spent the week learning about their own safety, including more about North Shore Fire/Rescue and the Glendale Police Department at the 2nd Annual Summer Safety Camp.

The camp, open to residents of all seven North Shore communities, is organized by North Shore Fire/Rescue and the Glendale Police Department. Participants are taught by firefighters and police officers, along with presenters from groups like Eddie the Eagle Gunsafe Program, Davidson Yell and Tell Program and Schlitz Audubon Center, ATA Martial Arts. 


Weekly Summary
  • A lightning strike caused a fire in a duplex in the 4800 Block of N. Oakland Ave in the early morning hours of July 12. No injuries were reported. Damage to the home is estimated at $75,000.
  • A truck struck low hanging wires in the 8400 N Teutonia Ave on July 10. Multiple utility poles were damaged as the truck continued to travel down the road. 
  • Two people were injured when their vehicle struck a building in the 5600 Block of N Green Bay Ave on July 10. The vehicle was fleeing from police. Both subjects were taken into custody by police. Significant damage was done to the building.
  • Community Risk Reduction Staff met with developers of a new residential project in the Village of Fox Point for a pre-construction meeting.
  • The Board of Directors and Finance Committee met on Tuesday. A quarterly financial report was provided along with the final report of the Long Range Financial Planning Committee.   • Chief Whitaker attended the monthly North Shore Police/Fire Chief's Meeting and the monthly County Fire Chief's Meeting.
  • Community Risk Reduction Staff met with new management staff at Bayshore Town Center.
