Departmental Weekly Update
Board of Directors Summary

The North Shore Fire/Rescue Board of Directors met on March 20th at Bayside Village Hall. A summary of the meeting is below:
  • Chief Whitaker presented the Department's 2016 Annual Report. The document can be found here. The Department continues to strive to provide excellent service in all mission areas. Over 70% of emergency calls for service are for EMS. With traditional efforts of fire prevention activities continuing, a focus on preventing falls, with the hopes of reducing calls for EMS service and improving the health of the population the Department serves is paramount in our daily activities. 
  • Bayside Communications Center Director Liane Scharnott presented the Bayside Communications Center Annual Report to the Board.
  • The Board authorized the Chief to enter into an clinical/field affiliate agreement with Waukesha County Technical College for paramedic training.
  • The Board received a report from the Finance Committee on the Department's fund investment performance in 2016.
Fire Commission Meeting Summary

The Fire Commission met Friday March 17 to interview 24 candidates in order to establish an Eligibility List for the position of Firefighter. The Eligibility List established by the Commission can be viewed here. The Department is considering filling two vacant positions as part of a Spring Recruit Academy.
Weekly Summary
  • Chief Whitaker testified before the State Assembly Committee on Health in support of AB151, a bill that will allow Community Paramedics and EMS Workers to function in the State. This will allow EMS services that operate current community EMS programs to transition from pilot programs to fully approved programs under the State EMS Office. 
  • Department Training Staff held the monthly professional development sessions this week.
  • Assistant Chief Harris attended the Center for Public Safety Excellence's (CPSE) "Excellence Conference" this week. CPSE is the body that accredits fire departments throughout the world.
  • Three people were injured in a motor vehicle crash that occurred in the 8000 N Block of I-43 on March 17.
  • Two people were injured in a motor vehicle crash that occurred on N Green Bay Rd at Deerwood Dr in Brown Deer on March 22.
