  • A garage fire in the 4800 Block of W Donna Dr in Brown Deer occurred May 8.
  • A house fire in the 800 Block of E. Spooner Rd in Fox Point caused $20,000 damage. Initial reports of people trapped in the home were unfounded after searches were completed.
  • The Department assisted both the Wauwatosa and Milwaukee Fire Departments this week for fires in their communities.
  • The Fire Department Board of Directors met on Tuesday May 8. The following occurred at the meeting:
    • 2017 Fiscal Audit Presentation by Baker Tilly
    • Fire Station 83 Building Status: The Village of Shorewood has asked for the Fire Department's input on reuse of the current building as opposed to building a new station. A engineering study and design process will need to be conducted to get more information on reuse of the building. Shorewood will be working with the Fire Department to hold a community input session later in May/early June.
    • Fire Station 84 Status: Bids for the remodel project all were over projected costs. The Project Team will consider options to reduce costs and report back at the June Board Meeting.
    • Approved expanding Firefighter Intern Program to ten interns from six interns at the recommendation of Staff and Fire Commission.
    • Approved an agreement to continue public safety communication services with the Village of Bayside
    • Elected Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy as Board President, Bayside Village President Sam Dickman as Board Vice-President and Brown Deer Village President Carl Krueger as Board Secretary/Treasurer for 2018.
  • Firefighter/Paramedic Recruits completed their fourth full week of recruit training today. The week was primarily spent training on firefighter safety and rescue issues.
