EMS Week 2018
Communities across the United States, including the seven North Shore Communities, will recognize emergency medical practitioners and their important work during Emergency Medical Services Week May 20 - May 26. All of the Department's ninety-eight sworn firefighters are licensed at emergency medical technician-basic or emergency medical technician-paramedic level in the State of Wisconsin.
In 2017, 74% of calls for service to the Department were for emergency medical services. Nearly 6,000 patients were treated by the Department in 2017.
The Department works as part of the Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services System. In 2017, the Department achieved the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline EMS Gold Plus Level Provider Award. This award is given to agencies that demonstrate at least 75% compliance for each required achievement measure related to Cardiac and Stroke care for two consecutive years. Gold Plus is the highest level of achievement awarded.
Success in saving lives is not only a function of the EMS providers, but the 911 Telecommunicators, the hospital systems and the general public. Members of the community can prepare themselves by learning
Hands-Only CPR and downloading the
Pulsepoint App on their mobile devices.
