Merit Badge Classes Need YOUR Help!

Expo is in a few weeks and we need Counselors for several classes.  The classes will be held Saturday April 22nd and Sunday April 23rd.

ROUNDTABLE
Every 2nd Tuesday at 7- 8:30 p.m.

April Roundtable will be held April 11th at 7 p.m.

 
If you know of anyone in your units that may be interested in helping teach at Roundtable please have them get in touch with Larry Simon. Right now we are in need of commissioners for the Cubmaster and Den Leaders, I can have multiple Den Leader instructors for the different levels.

Its Here!! - ONLINE REGISTRATION

Scouting families and prospective Scouting families have asked for it, and now it is here!  The Boy Scouts of America is offering online registration to the Las Vegas Area Council beginning in early April.  This will help us meet the demand for completing the online registration process for youth members and adult leaders.
The Las Vegas Area Council will go live with the online registration System on April 3.

CORs, Unit Committee Chairs & Unit Leaders will need to be prepared before a unit begins accepting registration through the online system.

Spring Recruitment Coming Soon!

Lunch Talks - This is so much fun.  You get to go to schools and talk to kids how much fun Cub Scouting is while they eat their lunch.  Then you will hand out pass-out-cards with info about the Packs Joining Night.

Joining Night - We need helpers to run our Joining Night.  This will take about 2 hours of your time.  You will answer Parents questions.  Help fill out Registration forms.  ??

Commissioners we need your help with Slime Night.  Slime is all the rage today and what a fun thing to do as the boys first Cub Scout event to attend.

Summer Camping!

CORs and Unit Leaders did you know we need you to report your camping plans to Chris Peterson?  

Chris is the District Camping Chair and his job is to gather information from all the units about their camping trips. Please report what your camping plans are and then after you camp report what you did.  As you finalize your Camping plans please send a quick email to Chris Peterson at  chris@troop555.us

Our District Service hours are low and we are thinking it is because our units are not reporting their service hours.  We know you are busy doing service in our community.  Larry Simon has made a video on how to report your services hours.  Click HERE to see that video.

MEGA SCOUT EXPO
April 22 & 23
(Saturday and Sunday)



 From merit badges to sword fighting and camping in between! Our Friday evening opening ceremonies will be new and exciting. The Merit Badge Midway will again offer an "independent" table for those scouts that have completed the requirements and need only to turn in work. The Webelos Walk will offer new activities and requirements. It's gonna be awesome!

Each Activity Badge will be $7.50 per class if registered by March 27th. 
March 28th through April 14th, the cost increases to $15 per Activity Badge. 
Online Webelos Walk Registration will close on April 14th.  No Walk-INS!


CAMPING 
If your unit signs up for a booth at the Mega Scout Expo before April 1st and participates at Expo, your unit will receive a $2 per person camping discount after Scout Expo.

Mega Scout Expo Supporting Opportunities 
This is a great family community event with a lot of Activities, Scouting, Food, Car Show and much more.  With the support of businesses from the community we are able to make this a Event possible for the families.  Please look over the Commercial Booth form and support this Event. 


LIFE TO EAGLE WORKSHOP
Open to all Life Scouts and Their Leaders/Parents

8 -10 a.m. OR 1-3 p.m.

Beginning April 1, 2017, Tour Plans will no longer be required.  Requirements for activities such as hazardous weather and CPR Training will not change.  Units are still expected to plan their activities, they just do not need to file a tour plan.  Check out the FAQ at the following link below.  

 

Cub Scout Day Camp

Cub day camp is organized by the council and is a one-to-five day program for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Day camp does not include overnight activities, but can be conducted during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Day camps are based on themes and include fun activities in nature, shooting sports, games, aquatics, and crafts. Day camp is lots of fun! 

How can I participate as a parent?
Parents are needed to make every camp a big success! Enjoy the Day Camp with your Cub Scout. Unit leaders and parents will be asked to guide dens as leaders at camp. 



 
The Las Vegas Area Council is now providing Scoutbook for all of our units.  If you are not already using this great resource please start!  You can track all things Scouting with Scoutbook.  Parents are able to access their Scouts records from any device.  Scoutbook will help you communicate with all the members of your unit.  Many of the tasks a unit does will be moving to the Scoutbook platform.  If you have not gotten your subscription code please contact Nancy Hill at the Scout Office.

Modifications to Cub Scout Requirements


The BSA just released changes to the new Cub Program Requirements. There were many that could not do all the requirements in the given time so they have made some adjustments.

ScoutQuest Merit Badge Series
At the Spring Preserve

Join certified counselors at the Springs Preserve to earn merit badges throughout the year.
Registration for each merit badge is $15. Limited seating available. Register online at the links below. Boy Scout Field Uniforms are recommended. Some classes require prior completion of pre-requisites.
