In the coming days here at Northminster, you will notice a change to the interior of our building. When you come through the front entrance, you will notice that above the second floor railing, where there was a blank wall, there will now be a beautiful "tree" which contains gold leaves with names of loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord. This "Tree of Life" once decorated the interior of Calvary Pres-byterian Church and their Session has asked ours to display it and in return allowing those of us at Northminster to purchase gold leaves in honor of our loved ones who are living, or in memory of those who have passed from this life to eternal life. The Session of Northminster has unanimously agreed to this arrangement.
If you are interested in purchasing a gold leaf in the name of someone you love, the cost for such a leaf will be $50. The leaf itself is only $7, and the remaining $43 will be used for the ministry and mission of Northminster at the Session's discretion.
I know I speak for everyone on the Session when I say I sincerely hope you like this new Tree of Life. I hope you will also consider purchasing a leaf in someone's honor or memory, and that every time you see their name on the Tree of Life it will remind you of everything you love about that person.
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Rich

DEVOTION OF THE WEEK
by Bruce Swaffield in Memoriam
|
|
Saying that God is in control and accepting that he is are not the same. When something does not go as planned, the temptation is to get upset or angry. We try to fight for what we believe is right or we run away.
The proper term for our reaction to difficult circumstances is known as the "fight or flight" instinct. Either we engage in all-out war to get our way, or we run away and try to forget the situation all together. God does not want us to choose one path or the other. He wants us to put it in his hands; to remain where we are and allow him to handle the matter.
I have to confess that I am my own worst enemy at times. I have never been one to simply walk away from a problem. Instead, my stubbornness takes hold of me and I battle to get my way, regardless of what I have to say or do. Perhaps you are the opposite: you might flee an encounter, hoping it will somehow disappear forever.
God wants both of us to stop and let him take over. As lord of our life, he is the ruler. What he says goes, whether we agree or not. We do not need to get mad or run off. We must learn to give God the time and authority to work. His way is the so-called Rule of 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). If we love him, we should be able to trust him.
Bruce's birthday is upcoming on
Monday,
April 24.
We miss you, Bruce, and your Devotions for Life continue to bless us.
