Shiver Hitch
by Linda Greenlaw
An ex-detective turned insurance investigator discovers the charred body of a universally disliked businesswoman in the remains of her home on a remote island off the coast of Maine. A routine house-fire inquiry suddenly looks a lot like a grisly case of murder. This entertaining mystery is as rich in atmosphere as it is in suspects. - Alden Graves

Friday, June 16th.

Featuring a foreword by Master Sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier, who contributed her vast knowledge throughout the book,
it organizes wines not by grape, not by region, not by New or Old World, but by soil. If you enjoy a Chardonnay from Burgundy, you might find the same winning qualities in a deep, red Rioja.
Feiring also provides a clarifying account of the traditions and techniques of wine-tasting, demystifying the practice and introducing a whole new way to enjoy wine to sommeliers and novice drinkers alike.

Greetings,
With BookExpo, the annual book industry convention coming up, the opening of the 7th Amazon bookstore (this one in Manhattan), the recent success of the Northshire's multi-author weekend Booktopia, the widespread news about the massive decline in retail this year, conversations we are having on the American Booksellers Association Board, and our upcoming sold out events with John Grisham and Anna Quindlen, I am thinking about this crazy business and these crazy times. On the one hand, it is clear that the physical book is here to stay and that the power of a good story and great writing is eternal. In addition, people like browsing in bookstores that have a combination of selection, ambiance and expertise that allow for a unique and uplifting experience. The great authors, known and unknown, who are coming to our stores regularly are a testament to the quality and scope of the written word in America. On the other hand, the increasing pressures on retailers in terms of the expenses of running a bricks and mortar operation and the shifting consumer dynamics towards digital, signal a fundamental shift in what retail will be in the coming decades. Obviously, this will have a substantial impact on the makeup and vibrancy of our downtowns. How will this affect our quality of life? Combine this with the well-established but unsustainable fundamentals of the bookstore segment of the book industry and many questions arise about the future of bookstores in America. Then again, in 2010 Nicholas Negroponte declared that the physical book would be dead within 5 years. The waves of change continue...
Be well, Chris
