Note From The Principal

The month of November went out with a bang!! It was a wonderful month for our scholars, teachers, and parent involvement. I enjoyed seeing the smiles of families during our Thanksgiving Feast. I was very proud of our scholars who were the first recipients to accept their rewards representing the character traits of honesty, integrity, and citizenship at our first Knighting Ceremony. We were entertained by The Ned Show which taught our scholars not to bully with cool yo-yo tricks. We had no bullying dress up days. The Humble campus hosted one of our very own parent authors, Sonia Parker, who shared her book called, "Stranger Danger". She also brought along one of Houston's favorite rappers Paul Wall and his friend Stunnabam. We are adding Ms. Parker's book to our school library.
December is going to be a great month for The Rhodes School for the Performing Arts! We have several huge events planned for our Northshore community. I can't wait to experience our infamous Christmas Production "Annie Jr.". We will also present "Twas the Night Before Christmas" for our school's Christmas program along with Channelview. Let's continue the traditions and wonderful opportunities for our families and communities to join us in our pride of our talented students.

We are getting pumped up about the building of our new Kaboom Playground. We need 200 volunteers on December 14, 2018. We have the tools and directions. We need your help to build. We need food and drink donations to feed and hydrate our workers. Will you help us? Please go to www.rhodesschool.org and volunteer to be a part of Rhodes School history.

We continue to be thankful to our Channelview and Humble campuses for making us feel at home. Thanks to the staff on all 3 campuses for being flexible and ensuring that our scholars are receiving a high-quality education.

We continue to work toward building literacy in all academic areas with our students. I am hopeful that all of our families will help to support our efforts to improve the reading and writing skills of our students. Students who read thirty-minutes each day will make much more growth than their peers who do not read thirty minutes each day. This independent reading is vital for the development of reading skills.

School attendance matters! In an effort to promote perfect attendance, students who were not absent the entire week will receive a free dress sticker to wear on Mondays. Students with perfect attendance for the semester will be invited to the "Perfect Attendance Sock Hop". Last, the class with the best attendance will have a pizza party!

Before we know it, the holiday break in December will be upon us. I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

Have a great December!

Educationally yours,

Tonya McBride, M. Ed.
