Steelheaders Made a Difference!
Here is proof that you (not just the Steelheaders or any one organization) can make a difference. Several hundred Steelheader members signed petitions and letters to the Pacific Fishery Management Council asking for protections for unmanaged forage fish. When enacting the protections, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) said: "NMFS appreciates the broad public interest in this rulemaking and has taken the strong public support it received into account in its approval of this final rule." All of you who signed petitions or filled in post cards helped make this happen.

Now Oregon is poised to provide the same protections within its state waters. Let ODFW and the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission know you support this effort by adding your name and home town to the petition here

Multnomah Channel Spring Chinook Fishing Saved
Long-time Steelheader supporter Gary Kish alerted the Steelheaders to the over-reaching proposal to make nearly 50% of the Multnomah Channel a no-wake zone. We alerted you, our members, and many of you appeared at the Oregon State Marine Board meeting or contacted them. It was obvious to the Marine Board that major stakeholders, i.e., anglers, were opposed; they denied the petition. The lower Willamette spring Chinook fishery will continue without being hamstrung by much of the water being a no-wake zone.
