Is it legal to text while you are stopped at a red light?  If you injure someone while texting- and-driving, how many years could you face in prison?  Must a police officer read you your Miranda rights during a traffic stop?  When can a police officer search your car?

At Strategies for Youth (SfY), we believe that teenage driving safety requires understanding the answers to these types of hypothetical situations.

A teenage driver is not fully equipped to handle the responsibilities of driving unless they know their state's driving laws, understand what their legal rights are while inside a vehicle, and are comfortable with interacting with police officers during traffic stops so as to avoid confrontation
or arrest.

SfY has developed Behind-the-Wheel Juvenile Justice Jeopardy™, a teenage driving version of its Juvenile Justice Jeopardy™, in order to teach youth how to navigate interactions with police and to fully grasp the short and long-term consequences of driving.  Behind-the-Wheel Juvenile Justice Jeopardy™ is designed to correct youths' inaccurate, yet strongly held, misconceptions about the laws of the road.

The game is played on software that can be downloaded remotely from our website so that you can play it with your youth anywhere!  Each game is customized to state law and to the specific context in which the game will be played.  In addition to integrating youth driving data into questions and answers, SfY conducts interviews with stakeholders, including juvenile defenders, district attorneys, juvenile court judges, and police to develop to ensure youth are exposed to the kinds of driving situations that typically result in arrest and/or court-involvement.
