Welcome to the 32nd Winona Horse Trials. Whew that's a long time!  Anyway, it is good to see a lot of familiar faces and we are happy to have some new competitors.  We are a small family operation and we would like to thank you for choosing to support our event! I am sending you this e-mail to give you information that you will need to know in hopes of making your weekend a little less stressful and more enjoyable. If you have never been to the farm before please check out the directions page on the website.   You should be able to find everything you need to know on the Winona Horse Trials or the general information page but you may need to scroll down to the icons for links to times, dressage tests, maps etc.The show jump maps and stabling charts are coming soon.  Below are a few things that I would like to remind you about:
  • Dave has been working really hard on the new property and the first thing you'll notice is that the drive to stabling is wider and if absolutely necessary you should be able to pass someone coming the other way. BUT please remember do NOT walk or drive past the dressage ring during a test closest to the road.
  • The new show jumping ring is not yet completed but we hope to be able to use a portion of it it for warm up.  Please DO NOT ride on the portion that does not have footing on it yet.
  • If you have not already done so we need a 2017 Stone Gate Farm release form on file. New this year, you may fill out and submit the form on line.
  • Join us for some fun after the competition on Sat for Saturday Night at the Races which is a fundraiser for the Area VIII NAJYRC Championships. You can sign up on-line or when you arrive.
  • Start Times & Stabling Assignments will be available by Wed May 10th or sooner. In the mean time you can see what division you are in on the entry status and the Overall-Schedule to get an idea what time you ride.  Those with multiple rides, not to worry, we juggled your times to give you as much time as possible between rides.
  •  Results can be accessed anytime during the competition at the link above, but please remember if they say 'provisional scores' they are not finalized
  • Packets will be available up by the house in the motor home or horse trailer if Penne doesn't get it back from the shop by then.  Feel free to park in the from parking lot before going down to stabling but please don't block the drive.  Packet pick up will only be available until 7:00PM on Fri and again on Sat starting at 7:00 AM.
  • Competitors who DO NOT have complete entries MUST have what they need to make your entry complete before you are given a number
  • Your Rider Rep is Amanda Wilson.724-858-9026 stall # 61
  • The expanded parking area is not yet available so parking in the stabling area still is very tight. ONLY trailers of stabled horses are allowed down below as space is very limited.  Cars MUST NOT take a trailer parking spot.
  • Be sure to check our the farm map to make sure you know where things are and where you are going
    • FEH entries are asked to park up on top of the hill and walk your horses down to the competition area which will be in the dressage arena closest to the pond. There will be a section of fence down in the pasture where you can walk your horses straight down the hill past the pond on the south (stabling) side of the arena
    • When going to Show Jumping warm up from the parking area, please do NOT go onto the cross country course.  Please refer to the farm map.
  • Dressage Tests are as follows:  Prelim - Test A, Training - Test A, Novice - Test A, Beginner Novice -  Test a, Starter - Beginner Novice Test A
  • Show Jumping: be sure to check when the course is open for walking and please note, there are different tracks for each level (maps will be posted soon)
  • A Shuttle Service will be available on Sat. It will be leaving the house on the half hour to pick up dressage tests.  If you need a ride look for the blue Ford Escape with a car seat in in it near the house or the dome or cal Cassie at 440-862-1867
  • The BLUE barrels with the recycling symbol and the hole cut in the top are for RECYCLING ONLY: empty glass, plastic or cans.  Please no trash!
  • Stabling:
    • The drive to stabling is at the bottom of the hill past the dressage rings.  If you are coming from SR 9 youwill be going past the drive that has the Stone Gate Farm sign out front.
    • NO BEDDING is provided. A limited amount of shavings and straw is available for purchase. Straw is $3/bale and shavings is $/bag. Click here to pre-order
    • NO SHAVINGS BAGS in the garbage cans.  You can stuff them behind the port-a-jons and in the two areas at the south ends of the barn that have equipment in them.  Thank you.
    • Parking is very limited, please follow the instructions of the parking attendant. Any tents set up must NOT take a trailer spot. Unhooked trucks must be parked in front of the trailer. Please check out the stabling area map
    • Stall numbers for the two large barns on on the cement floor in front of the gate.
    • The lights are run off of a generator and will be shut off at 11:00 PM on Fri night.  You may want to bring a flash light or a headlamp. Stalls in the small Pipe Barn # 59 - 70 do not have lights.
    • All stalls have gates
    • Stalls must be STRIPPED to have the 'muck check' destroyed.  You can still sign up for the $10 stall cleaning service
  • There will be extra garbage bags, TP and bee spray in the dome.

Thanks again for coming our event and welcome to our home, we hope you and your horse have a great time and that your experience at Stone Gate Farm helps in the development of the partnership with you and your horse!! The footing is looking good, keep your fingers crossed for good weather.

Jackie, Dave and the entire Smith family

A few notes for the Winona competition from the Secretary:

  • Please check your entry status and have all missing items with you prior to entering the Secretary Office. This is a courtesy to the Secretary and your fellow competitors.
  • If you can email your missing Coggins ahead, that would be helpful. Please take a photo of it, or scan it to your phone. Then you will always have it with you.
  • If you have not provided a $25 Stall Cleaning Deposit, Please bring stall deposit checks (one per horse) - we do not take cash for stall deposits. We will take cash if you want to add the $10 stall cleaning to your entry instead.
  • SGF release forms - These may only be signed by a parent or a legal guardian. Trainers, or other family members may not sign them. We have made this easier than ever. If you have not submitted one with your entry, you may submit one on-line and get it out of the way for the year. Once completed, send the secretary an email that it is submitted and I will update your entry status.
  • If you are riding a Thoroughbred, and your entry does not show "TIP Registration Received", it's not too late to add it. Please email a copy of your TIP info and I will update your entry. If you do not have a TIP number yet, they are quick and easy to obtain at  http://tjctip.com. Be sure to get one so you can have a chance at the TIP awards.

Thank you,
Penne Colao, Secretary

p.s. - I will again have a special little thank you for all my "Stars" with complete packets!
