COMMUNITY  FOUNDATION  OF  THE  FOX  RIVER  VALLEY
e - MEMORANDUM

November, 2013
Giving Thanks for the Arts

Sharon Stredde, President & CEO

This past weekend, my family and I attended Miss Saigon at the Paramount Theatre.  If you haven't already, I strongly encourage you to visit the historic Paramount for this spectacular rendition of a Broadway classic.  Miss Saigon runs through November 24 and you can purchase tickets by clicking here.

While sitting in the beautiful theatre, I couldn't help but consider the many outstanding cultural organizations that provide service to our communities.

Organizations like the Aurora Historical Society, The Fine Line Creative Arts Center, Geneva History Center, SciTech Museum, and the Young Fox Valley Singers play significant roles in our lives.

As we approach the holiday season, I encourage you to give thanks for all of the wonderful not-for-profit organizations - the ones that provide for life's essentials and the ones that elevate our thinking through the arts.

The Community Foundation is blessed to have individuals who champion the mission of these organizations through the creation of charitable funds on their behalf.

We also manage the endowments of more than 30 local not-for-profits.  For a list of these organizations, please click here.  Please consider a year-end gift to one or more of these valued community resources.

Or, if you are interested in establishing a charitable fund to support your favorite not-for-profit organization, please contact the community foundation today.

Thanks for all you do!

Grant money helps take care of city's precious historical artifacts

Aurora Historical Society

It's been said if you don't know where you come from, you don't know where you're going.

Well, thanks to a $9,000 emergency grant, the Aurora Historical Society is resting a little easier

these days in terms of preserving its collection for years to come.

According to the Historical Society's Executive Director John Jaros, problems have developed at

the storage space on Cedar Street as a result of an aging heating, cooling and ventilation system

that finally broke down after years of nursing it along.

With the onset of winter, the collection at the facility, which includes 40 percent of the city's

artifacts, was in danger of being compromised.
