Community Breakfast
39th Annual Thanksgiving Community Breakfast
Friday, November 17, 7am-8:30am, Lafayette Veterans Memorial Center; Reservation deadline is Wednesday at noon.

Reservations are now being accepted through Wednesday at noon for our 39th Annual Thanksgiving Breakfast! The breakfast will be held at the Lafayette Veterans Memorial Center. Keynote speaker Deanne Pearn, MPP Executive Director of Contra Costa Interfaith Housing will present "Home is just the beginning..."

The event will be catered by Jeff Assadi of La Finestra! Music provided by Wendy Tamis, Harpist. Reserve a table for your group! Reservation deadline is Wednesday, November 15 at noon. Make your online reservation here!  Or download and submit this flyer.

Last night we flipped the switch and the Holiday "twinkle lights" were turned on.  We will keep them illuminated through the first part of January.  We want to thank Dana Green and Matt Branagh for helping the Chamber underwrite the cost of the lights each year.  And of course don't miss the kick-off party to the holiday shopping season, It's a Wonderful Life in Lafayette, on Friday, December 1 at Lafayette Plaza Park.

Forma Gym Turkey Trot The Forma Gym Walnut Creek Turkey Trot -  An East Bay Thanksgiving Day Family Tradition

This Thanksgiving, before the big meal, games, and pumpkin pie why not get a little exercise with a few thousand of your neighbors. The Forma Gym Turkey Trot is an event the entire family can enjoy. There are several races to choose from including Kids Fun Runs, 10K and 5K runs, and festival areas with costume contest. The event takes place in beautiful Downtown Walnut Creek and goes through a flat terrain of neighborhoods, businesses, and part of the Iron Horse Trail.

By running the Turkey Trot you will also be giving back to your local community through our beneficiaries like the Food Bank, WCEF, PEAK, and The Wellness City Challenge. We also have a special promotion of $5 off the race plus a matching donation of $5 to Lafayette Partners in Education. Just use the discount code LPIE upon checkout.

Money in Politics Update

What positive initiatives can mitigate the impact of Big Money in our elections? The League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley will give an update about "Money in Politics" on Saturday, November 18 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in Lafayette. Helen Hutchison, president of the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) and Lee Lawrence, LWVC Government Director, are the featured speakers. Lamorinda Arts Council "Call for Poet Laureate Applications"
Lamorinda Arts Council (LAC) president Lawrence Kohl announced the formation of a Poet Laureate Program (PLP) which marks the first opportunity of its kind for our local literary community. Thanks to endorsements from the City Councils of Orinda and Lafayette, the Lamorinda Arts Council PLP will manage and support the Poet Laureate who will serve both Lafayette and Orinda. The Poet Laureate will be called upon to write theme-based poetry and read poetry at civic and other events such as public ceremonies and dedications. They will also support the Lamorinda Arts Council PLP activities in the schools and community and serve as a liaison with literary organizations. Poets interested in this position are invited to apply online at https://lamorindaarts.org/poet-laureate-application. Deadline to receive all online applications is December 31, 2017 at 5pm.
