We had a wonderful opening on September 28 for this year's Day of the Dead Altars & Ephemera exhibition.  To further commemorate the 30th year of our show, we are hosting several special events on the official day of the holiday, November 2.

 From 12:30-5 PM, we have scheduled activities appropriate for all ages. 
COME CELEBRATE WITH US!!!

12:30-1:30 PM: Music by Martin Espino, traditional sounds inspired by indigenous cultures of the Americas

1-5 PM: Ulla Anobile & Victor Solis;  2-3 PM: Matt DeHaven
Altar creators informally discuss their installations - DeHaven's for James Dean, Anobile's for her Finnish ancestors and ancient spirits, Solis' for his beloved dog

2-5 PM: Day of the Dead face painting by Jeanine Montellano and

2-5 PM: Trunk show - hand blown and painted glass Day of the Dead ornaments created by artisans in Krakow for Artistry of Poland

Martin Espino 

 
Espino is a Mexican-American musician and composer of indigenous Yaqui and Tepehuano ancestry from Whittier, CA.  He is best known for performing authentic prehispanic music with his band MEXIKA.  Espino has spent over twenty five years researching prehispanic musical instruments and has performed with many indigenous musicians from Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.  His musical inspiration comes directly from traditional Native American/Mexican music as well as ambient improvisations.

Espino will be doing a solo set at The Folk Tree.

Suzanna Myal of Artistry of Poland offers a variety of designs and talks about the creative and technical process. 
 
 
BALLET FOLKLORICO ACOIRIS

"Ballet Folklorico Arcoiris" was founded in 2011 in the city of Pacoima. Its purpose is to teach students about Mexican culture and traditions that have been passed down through other generations. The company is proud to keep these customs alive through dance and to share them with the community.
