"Nutcracker Tea" - Sunday, December 7 from 12 - 2 PM
Festive treats and tea, live music, crafts, visits from the Nutcracker, Sugar Plum Fairy, and Mrs. Claus. All welcome, no signup needed.

Gingerbread House Workshop - Friday, December 5 @ 3:30 PM

November Holiday Closures
The main library and the Farms branch will be closed on Veterans' Day - Tuesday, November 11, 2014; and on Thursday, November 27, 2014 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Additionally, the main library will close at 6 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Both locations will be open normal hours on Friday, November, 28 through Sunday, November 30 (the Farms branch is closed on Sundays).  
Fall Book Sale Starts November 15

Our annual Friends of the Beverly Public Library Fall Book Sale will begin on Saturday, November 15 and run for 9 days, through Sunday, November 23, 2014. Find prices, hours, and other essential details here

 

Have items you'd like to donate? We accept donations of books, movies, and music year-round (no magazines or text books, please). Please bring donations to our Children's Room on the 1st floor of the main library, or to the checkout desk on the 2nd floor.

Friends of the Library Book Sale Preview Party
Members of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library are invited to a preview of the annual Friends' Fall Book Sale at the main library on Friday, November 14 from 6 to 8 PM. It's a wonderful chance to socialize and seek books in a relaxed setting. If you're not yet a member of the Friends, no worries - join at the door (cash or checks accepted), and come on in! "It's Not About the Hike"
Sunday, November 9, 2 - 4 PM
If it's not about the hike...then what is it about? Nancy Sporborg and Pat Piper are two 50-plus-year-old women who started walking the sidewalks of Keene, NH, and ended up climbing the 100 highest mountains in New England. They thought they were just going out for a hike when they climbed their first mountain, but they were wrong - they were beginning the journey of a lifetime. Nancy and Pat visit the main library to tell their extraordinary story. Get all the program details here.  
Write a Novel in November

The Beverly Public Library is excited to host our first NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) Write-In on November 5, 2014 from 6 - 8:45 PM. Bring your laptop, notebook, or scribe to the Sohier Room (ground floor, main library), where we'll have tables, chairs, outlets, wireless internet, and free snacks. Personalized Reading Lists for Teens
Love to read but having trouble finding your next book? Or perhaps you're not convinced that reading is for you, and could use some suggestions? Well, this personalized reading list tool is for you! Fill out the form and the YA librarian will create a customized reading list for you. Please allow up to one week to receive your list.

Teens' Top 10
Each year, YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services Association) works with libraries and teens around the country to compile a "Top Ten" list of books for teens. This year's results are in! Check them out here, then visit us to check out the books! 
All-Ages Wreath Decorating

Teens, adults and families are welcome to join us for a wreath decorating session at the main library on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 1:30 - 4 PM in the Barnet Gallery. We will provide decorating materials and light refreshments - you provide the wreath and the creativity! Registration is required - call 978-921-6062 to register. "Musical Mornings with Miz Liz" returns on Saturday, November 8 @ 10 AM. A fun, interactive mix of children's sing-a-long music, movement and literature for children aged 0-5 and their parents/caregivers. Supported by the Friends of the Beverly Public Library.
 
Massachusetts Children's Book Award Books on the 2014 -2015 list are currently on display. Come in and take a look!
"Intro to 3D Printing" Workshops

Join library director Pat 
 
Cirone at the main library on Monday, November 10 or Tuesday, December 2 for an introduction to the basics of working with a MakerBot Replicator, Fifth generation. You'll also learn the basics of downloading and designing objects using Thingiverse, Tinkercad and SketchUp. Feel free to bring your laptop! A free version of SketchUp is available on the SketchUp website. 


Registration required - to register, call 978-921-6062 or stop by the Reference desk at the main library. The workshop runs from 6:30 - 9 PM in the Sohier Room, ground floor. Open to ages 10 and up. Questions? Contact Pat at [email protected]
