November 2014 Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

We're definitely in the swing of things now!  Classes are going great - we're getting close to our first ever Christmas Production, Workshops are coming our way, and before long we'll be finishing up Session 1!

The winners of our "Lunch Date" draw were Abby Head and Hope Alescio.   We had a lovely lunch at Magpies and the girls answer loads of crazy questions that will be included in our Dancer of the Month series.

We will be holding future "Lunch Date" Draws in January and April.  Keep your eyes open for your way to enter, and your dancer could also be a Dancer of the Month!

The Studio will be OPEN on November 10th and 11th (Pro-d Day & Remembrance Day), please plan to send your dancer to his/her classes.  There are only a few weeks left of Nutcracker Rehearsals - this  is why we are going to be open on the 11th

On Monday November 17th SDA is having it's first ever Open House!
Past, Present, and Future Dance Families are all encouraged to attend.  All attendees (18 years and under) will receive ONE FREE PAIR OF TIGHTS ~ That's like being given $10+ just for stopping by!   All Sheridan Dance Academy Dancers who bring a NON SDA Friend to our Open House will be entered into a draw! 1st Prize an SDA Hoodie, 2nd Prize $30 SDA Gift Certificate, 3rd Prize 4 tickets to The Nutcracker. For every friend you bring, you'll get one entry into our draw.  We'll have coffee, tea, games, dancing and loads of fun ~ See you there :-)

On Monday November 17th Ballet Victoria will be visiting Sheridan Dance Academy and hosting a Ballet Workshops for dancers 12+  This workshop will run for 1.5 hours and will cost $15/dancer.  Pre Registration would be greatly appreciated, but not a must.  Remember:  we LOVE hosting these sorts of events ~ but can only do them if our dancers ATTEND.

On Tuesday November 18th the Max Cameron Theatre is hosting Ballet Victoria's Dracula!

Tickets can be purchased through the Max Cameron Theatre, and the Academy of Music.  We've wrangled up something special for our Sheridan Dance Academy Families:  SDA has the ENTIRE FRONT ROW reserved!  The performance is "general seating" but SDA get's first dibs on the front row - here's how it works:  Once you have purchased your tickets, email or call us and let us know how many front row seats you would like.  We will then set aside that many front row tickets for you.  There are limited seats of course, so don't hold back - if you want the front row!  Now there is ONE catch - The MAX has asked that in exchange for these reserved seats we help them out with "munchies" for the cast and crew.  As we get closer to the performance dates we will have a better ideas as the WHAT we should provide (veggie tray, wraps, brownies, etc), but please be prepared to make or purchase something in exchange for these awesome seats.  I think one item for every 2-3 front row tickets should suffice.

Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 Sheridan Dance Academy will host workshops with Mariah-Jane Thies from Vancouver.  Mariah-Jane joined us a few years back for a weekend of workshops, and we still often refer to the lessons she taught.  The classes turned out to be invaluable, and having her back is a fantastic opportunity.
Pre Registration Discounts End NOVEMBER 10th.
Details can be found HERE

Dancer's taking part in the Nutcracker need to be available for rehearsals at the Evergreen Theatre December 9 - 11th (times to follow).
Dancers will be excused from their regular dance classes to attend their rehearsals.  We will hold two Nutcracker Performances.  Friday evening (December 12th) and Saturday in the late afternoon (December 13th).  Please mark your calendars!

Sheridan Dance Academy will be closed from December 13 - January 4 for Christmas Break.

Remember!  If you only registered for Session 1 you need to let Nicole or Brittany know at the front desk, that you would like to come back for Session 2 (beginning January 5).  Some classes are close to full, and we wouldn't want you to lose your place - but you must let us know that you would like to continue into the New Year.

Last Season's Pictures and DVDs are available at the studio!  Check the Parent Waiting room for pictures, and at the front desk for DVDs.

I know several parents have been asking about our beautiful Wall Canvases. Our Photographer, Jennifer Dodd has assured me that they are both on their way!  I know your little ones are patiently waiting to see their own smiling faces up on the wall!
