Thousand Turkey Challenge Kick-off and Family Volunteer Day!
Doing Good Together/NY and West Side Campaign Against Hunger Interfaith Coalition (WSCAH)
Date/Time: Sunday, November 22, 12:30 - 2pm
Location: WSCAH - 263 West 86th Street, in the basement of the Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew (Between West End Avenue and Broadway)
Doing Good Together/NY has received a generous grant from generationOn. We will be sponsoring a fun and meaningful service event for Family Volunteer Day, in conjunction with the West Side Campaign Against Hunger Interfaith Coalition and their Thousand Turkey Challenge Kick-off event. Families are welcome to visit WSCAH to learn more about their supermarket-style food pantry. All participating families are asked to bring a frozen turkey to donate to The Thousand Turkey Challenge (or donate $18, the price of one turkey). Please note: There is a Gristedes market next door to WSCAH so you can purchase your turkey on your way to the event. A representative of WSCAH will speak to our group and provide tours of the pantry. We will have arts and crafts projects for the children, recipe sharing for the adults, snacks, refreshments and other surprises. We will also be creating toiletry kits for food pantry clients. Please consider bringing any travel-sized toiletry items you may have at home, or purchase some for this project. This service event is being sponsored by the WSCAH Interfaith Coalition and generationON.
If you cannot attend the Family Volunteer Day event on 11/22, please consider donating a frozen turkey to WSCAH for the Thousand Turkey Challenge or making a financial donation. You can drop off turkeys at WSCAH on Monday & Tuesday, November 23 & 24, from 9 am - 8 pm and Wednesday, November 25th from 9 am - 1 pm.

Host A Birthday Party for Children Living in Shelter
CelebrateU
Location: Ittelson Center, 5050 Iselin Avenue, Riverdale, NY; Henry Street Settlement, 605 FDR Drive or 130 Baruch Place
Two 15-year-old girls, Chase Kauder and Talia Eskenazi, founded The Celebrate U Foundation. Celebrate U hosts, organizes and manages birthday parties for children in shelters or who can't afford to celebrate their birthday in the New York City area. Early education is essential, but so is building a child's self esteem, giving them hope for a bright future and knowing society cares about them. Celebrate U partners with the nationally known social service agencies for bi-monthly birthday celebrations. Corporate sponsors provide treats and party gifts. A training session will take place one week prior to each event.
Ages: Children 11 or younger may volunteer with a parent. Volunteers ages 12 and older may participate on their own.
Time Commitment: Two hours, plus ½ hour training session

Thanksgiving Holiday Meal for the Homeless
Manhattan Church of Christ
Date/Time: Saturday, November 28, shifts beginning at 9am. The meal will take place from 11am - 2pm. Volunteers may stay for as long as they like.
Location: Manhattan Church of Christ, 48 East 80th Street
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Manhattan Church of Christ opens its doors to serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to the homeless. All shifts are family-friendly, and involve a set-up team to set tables and decorate, a service team to run trays of food back and forth to the guests, and a breakdown & clean-up team.

Thanksgiving Turkey Drive for Families in Need
Family-to-Family
Date/Time: At your convenience, before Thanksgiving
Location: Online
Help make Thanksgiving happen again this year, for all the families in our "extended family." Consider making a $20 donation to purchase a turkey plus one side dish (e.g. potatoes or stuffing) for one Family-to-Family family. Or, buy a "flock of turkeys" (you choose how many) to feed more than one family. If you currently sponsor a family, send Family-to-Family an email at [email protected] after you donate, with your name, the name of your sponsored family and the community where they live. Family-to-Family will make sure they receive your turkey, and will let them know you've purchased it specifically for them. If you don't sponsor a family, Family-to-Family will donate the turkey to a family that didn't get one.

Thanksgiving Day Meal Delivery
God's Love We Deliver
Date/Time: Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 9:30am - 12:30pm or 10am-1pm
Location: God's Love We Deliver has
ten meal distribution centers to choose from throughout the five boroughs where you will pick up the food packages for delivery
There's no better place to spend Thanksgiving Day than at God's Love We Deliver. Preparing and delivering thousands of meals requires the help of many volunteers, who will hit the road distributing Thanksgiving feasts to clients, their families and guests. Volunteers will pick up Thanksgiving meals from a meal distribution center and deliver them directly to clients' households. Each car will take an estimated four to five households worth of deliveries.
Ages: Driver must have valid driver's license. Passengers can be all ages.
Time Commitment: Three hours

Share One Night of Chanukah with a Homebound Elder
DOROT
Date/Time: December 6, 9, 10 or 13.
Location: Seniors' homes in Manhattan
Families with children ages 4-12 can help share holiday joy in the home of a DOROT senior. Set aside one night of Chanukah to light the menorah with an older friend. Together, you and your family will create a memorable and meaningful Chanukah tradition. DOROT will provide a menorah, candles, chocolate gelt, a dreidel and helpful guidelines for Chanukah blessings, songs, and dreidel-playing. All you need to bring is your family!

Feeding NYC 2015
Feeding NYC
Date/Time: Tuesday, November 24. Three shifts: 6 - 8am, 8 - 11am, or 10am - noon.
Location: Pier 60/Chelsea Piers - 23rd Street and West Side Highway
FeedingNYC is a grass roots organization that relies on the generosity of volunteers to help provide Thanksgiving dinners to thousands of families in need throughout New York City. FeedingNYC has delivered over 43,000 complete Thanksgiving meals to sheltered families for 13 years. You and your family can sign up to join over 400 volunteers to help pack up and deliver thousands of Thanksgiving meals to local families and shelters.
Ages: Everyone can volunteer; all participants under 18 must be accompanied by adult and have a signed waiver.
Time Commitment: Two to three hours, depending on the shift

Keeping it Green for Families
Central Park Conservancy
Date/Time: Sundays, November 15, 22 and 29, 10 am - noon
Location: Central Park
Work together as a family to help keep Central Park green. Activities include spreading mulch, raking leaves and doing other important jobs in the Park. Sessions are led by environmental educators.
Ages: Families with children age five and over are welcome to volunteer

The 22nd Annual Race To Deliver
God's Love We Deliver
Date/Time: Sunday, November 22; Adult race at 8:30am, Kids' Races at 10am
Location: Central Park
Race to Deliver is one of GLWD's largest annual fundraisers. It is a 4 mile run/walk in Central Park, followed by multiple-distance Kids' Races. The race is a symbol of the daily race to ensure that no person ever has to face the unthinkable combination of illness and hunger. The goal for this year is funding for 40,000 meals; $10 = one meal. You may sign up for the races, join a team, sponsor a runner or sponsor a team, all through the
race website.
Ages: All ages
Time Commitment: Several hours, depending on which races you run.

27th Annual Coat Drive
New York Cares
Date/Time: Coat Drive officially kicks off on November 17
Location: Donation sites are located across the city, in Police Stations, at major transportation terminals and at participating merchants. Check the
website for details on drop-off locations.
It is never too early to start collecting coats for the New York Cares Coat Drive. As the weather begins to get colder, New York Cares starts to distribute coats to their Community Partners. You may donate gently used coats at any one of the public donation sites or you may start your own family coat drive in your apartment building, church/temple, school or office. All coats need to be delivered to the New York Cares warehouse located in midtown. Recipients of the coats include churches, schools and shelters, all of which serve New York's most in-need populations. Both adult and child-sized coats are welcomed.

Share Your Abundance This Thanksgiving
NY Common Pantry
Date/Time: The last pick-up day is Wednesday, November 18
Location: 8 East 109th Street
Organize your own Food Drive to benefit the NY Common Pantry. They provide over 2,000 complete Thanksgiving meals each year. You and your family can organize your own food drive to help the Pantry collect food to be distributed to low-income New York families to ensure that everyone who relies on the NY Common Pantry will have the food they need to have a festive and memorable holiday. Choose collection sites for your food drive that are both highly visible and secure, and promote your drive to neighbors and friends. Items to be collected include:
- Canned cranberry sauce
- Rice
- Gravy
- Corn Bread Mix
- Stuffing Mix
- 18 oz Oatmeal containers
- Cake/Brownie Mix
- Frosting
- Pasta
- Canned Beans
- Dry Beans
- PLEASE NO GLASS JARS!

Repackage Rice and Beans- Help Stock the Food Pantry
Feeding America
Date/Time: Ongoing
One in seven people in America are food insecure, living in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. Rice and beans are nourishing, filling, and infinitely adaptable food staples. You and your family can help feed the hungry in your community by transforming inexpensive bulk-packaged goods into meal-sized portions. Check out
