Hi friends,
It may seem odd to say we celebrated October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. Yet, we at The Gatehouse do celebrate that this horrific issue is being brought into the light. Domestic Violence has now become a mainstream topic, and as a result, more women and children are reaching out for help.
But Domestic Violence is an issue beyond just each October. A local Domestic Violence shelter reported a 96 percent increase in calls over the past year. The good news: victims are reaching out. The bad news: every day thousands of families are being turned away from agencies who simply cannot handle the increased demand that increased awareness has generated.
Neighborhoods 3 & 4 at The Gatehouse have opened as our numbers reach 62 women and 90 children. We anticipate adding more than 30 women and probably 70 kids into the Independent Life Program during the first half of 2017. Watch for more information as we roll out the building campaign for our Early Learning Childcare Academy.
If you're a volunteer and supporter of The Gatehouse community, thank you. If you'd like to become a part of our team, learn more at
gatehousegrapevine.com. Your time, talent and treasure are the very things you have been blessed with that can be a bright light of hope for women and children needing a hand up.
"Before my children and I came here to The Gatehouse, I always walked with my head down and only saw dirt and filth and ugliness. But now I am always looking up and all around me, and I see the stars, and colorful sunsets, and stupendous lightning, and blooming trees and flowers everywhere! Because I've found hope, I can see beauty again!"
