Fall 2016 has WLC in full swing!
Just over 2 months into the 2016/2017 school year and Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) and partners are in full swing providing area students career education and experiences through job shadows, internships, and career events!
WLC wrapped-up high school job shadow application requests in mid-September receiving nearly 2000 applications for Fall 2016! Well over half of these job shadow requests have been completed as of November 1st.
WLC Fall 2016 internship program placed 21 students and  152 Winter/Spring   internship applications completed for consideration.
In addition, WLC & Business partners have already hosted 26 career experience events serving 1746 area high school and middle school students. An additional 69 events are planned for the 1st semester serving an additional 9221 students totaling nearly 11,000 students served the 1st semester.
The numbers are only part of the WLC story! The quality of the experiences and direct connections with the students make the biggest impact.  WLC hears continually from students, parents, teachers & business partners about the positive impacts these experiences are having in their lives.
WLC could not make this happen without the incredible support of our WLC partners! Thank you for saying "YES" to these experiences for students! Thank you for having an amazing impact by connecting our future! It is life changing!

Middle School students engage in the possibilities!
When did you start thinking about what you wanted to be when you grew up? Today's students are being asked to consider the possibilities in middle school.  Students are already forming perceptions and ideas about careers in middle school. Programs like Interactive Speaker Days and business tours are designed to better inform students and are helping businesses connect with students earlier in their decision making processes. The career opportunities are endless and as some middle school students recently discovered during the Advancing the Future Tours, it often comes with surprising discoveries!   Video

Engaging today's students in career education and experiences isn't just about community goodwill.  Participating as career speakers, hosting job shadow students, student tours, or internships is changing the next generations' perceptions about career paths and career opportunities in the corridor. It's also changing their community and helping shape the future.
"Business involvement in career education and workplace experiences has developed beyond good community stewardship", says Laurie Worden, Associate Director Workplace Learning Connection (WLC). Read more
