Hi Everyone,

We are pleased to introduce the first DVOMB Monthly Minute. The monthly Minute will highlight updates and events from the DVOMB every month that may be important to you. This one-stop-shop will share information and where to go for more details.
Board Updates

The DVOMB held a strategic planning retreat at the November meeting as a way to gain clarity and consensus on issues presently affecting domestic violence in Colorado. At the meeting, the Board discussed different ideas and strategies to address these issues over the next two to three years. The goals identified from this meeting will be summarized and presented during the January 2017 Board meeting where the Board will then begin to prioritize issues and the related work moving forward.

Please note that the December 2016 DVOMB meeting has been cancelled. The dates for the DVOMB meetings in 2017 are provided below.

The DVOMB approved a new Appendix for the Standards titled "Working with DV Offenders Involved in the Military" during the August meeting. The following Guidelines have been developed to address the unique aspects of treatment with domestic violence offenders who also have military experience. The treatment issues unique to military require that providers working with this population have specific experience, knowledge, and assessment skills to effectively assess for and provide treatment. It is imperative that treatment providers are prepared to assess and respond to the myriad of experiences and needs within military offender populations. Providers must seek appropriate training to work effectively with this population. Providers are encouraged to use these guidelines and seek to increase their competence in working with diverse groups of offenders who have had military experience.

There is a new updated version to the DVRNA. This new edition incorporates new guidelines for DV Treatment Providers to consider regarding Domain B and the use/abuse of medical or recreational marijuana.

Research Corner

The DVOMB published a report on the implementation of the Standards, following several years of development, recruitment and data collection. These efforts were greatly aided by many treatment providers who participated in the DVOMB projects; we thank all of you for your help with these efforts. The published report titled "Standards for Treatment with Court Ordered Domestic Violence Offenders: A Process Evaluation" presents findings on the degree to which Standards have been implemented in Colorado and provide a great overview of the differentiated treatment model.

New Staff to the DVOMB

Many changes are happening with the staff to the DVOMB. We have recently added Kelli Reynolds who will serve as the new Staff Researcher and Statistical Analyst. Kelli comes highly skilled and passionate about the criminal justice field. As a recent graduate of Bridgewater State University with a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Kelli brings a great deal knowledge and experience to this position in conducting research and applying evidence-based practices to treatment programs. Kelli's previous employment includes working as an Anti-Money Laundering Analyst and as a Counselor for Spectrum Health Services, Inc.

The DVOMB is also proud to announce that Carolina Thomasson is the new Standards Coordinator. Many of you may recognize Carolina whom has been a a practicing DV Treatment Provider since 2007. Carolina recently became a DV Clinical Supervisor and has brought many innovations to Luna Counseling which includes specialized components of cultural awareness and sensitivity to offense specific treatment. Carolina has been an active member of various DVOMB committees and offers a wealth of clinical experience to the DVOMB. Given her new roll with the DVOMB, Carolina will no longer be practicing with the DV offenders.

For questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact any of the DVOMB staff for technical assistance. Please remember to update your contact information if you have not notified the Board of any changes since your last renewal.
