President's Message
Dear members,

Congratulations to all of our PMO, RTO and CUS members for a very strong Fall season both here in Canada, where we have welcomed 1000's of guest from our key markets, and to those who have spent so much of October and November on the road promoting our great destination for future years of tourism business to Canada.  These are very key months for all of us and it is great to see the fruits of our combined efforts!
Our numbers for visitors to Canada in 2016 are ending on a very healthy note from our Asia Pacific markets; thanks to your work over this past year, and the relationship of our Canadian Dollar against other currencies worldwide.  Our strong partnerships between members strengthen our offerings to the markets, and visitors can feel that synergy when they arrive here in Canada.  The efforts by so many to make the visitor visa process more streamlined and accessible has also given us the ability to boast that Canada is ready for its visitors!  And we are!

As we look ahead to the last quarter of 2016, we are pleased to share with you that the preparation for our 20th Annual CITAP Winter Function is underway.  This year's event will be held on December 6th at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.  The combination of workshops, marketplace and gala dinner will make for a great day to "Get connected and Stay connected!"  There is still time to sign up for sponsorship until November 16, educational seminars in the morning and the reception and gala dinner until November 23. Please be in touch with Yuko Denham to firm up your arrangements. More information on our Winter Function can be found below and on our website. Thank you for your support.  The Winter Function is a key source of revenue for the association, but more importantly, it's an important event that brings together our members and industry partners - connecting with one another to celebrate the successes we made in 2016 and to look ahead to 2017, and how we can position Canada in an even stronger light when we work together.

Our staff and committees have all been very active, working on their specific tasks, and we will be able to share with you at the Winter Function a brief summary of these activities -- from our added conference plans at our AGM March 9-10, 2017 in Ottawa to our work on supporting Tour Guides Canada-wide.  We will also be announcing some changes to our Hidi Nishi Golf event for next year, so please stay tuned!
And if you have additional thoughts or suggestions for areas we should be working on as committees, please be in touch with me or any members of our Board of Directors via email or a call.  We welcome your input and value your contribution to the future direction of CITAP.  We are on a roll and want to keep on rolling.

I look  forward to seeing many of you at the Winter Function in Vancouver on December 6th, and also look forward to many celebrations together in 2017 as we enjoy Canada's year long 150th Birthday Party!

In case you have not heard, Lonely Planet has named Canada as the best country to visit in 2017 in the Best in Travel, a yearbook that highlights the top ten countries, cities and regions to explore. (For more information, see the Best in Travel landing page and Lonely Planet's Canada video.)

This recognition does not mean our work is done; it should act as a catalyst to further encourage us to keep this momentum building as we move into 2017, our country's 150th anniversary.
As we approach January, Destination Canada has received increased inquiries regarding 2017 Celebrations. Two resources to keep you up to date with what's up in 2017 are:

Communities across Canada will continue to reveal and share plans for 2017 celebrations and activities through a calendar of events and activities, all available through Passport 2017. In January 2017, this app/website will go live and provide you with personalized recommendations, stories and event listings throughout the year and offer you the opportunity to showcase your own event or activity.

2017 is the year to discover, experience and celebrate Canada!
2017 Annual General Meeting

Mark your calendar for a "capital" event: the 2017 CITAP AGM -- which will take place in Ottawa, Ontario on Monday April 10, 2017.

This is the first time the AGM will be held in Ontario and thus provides a great opportunity for a pre-AGM familiarization tour. Our capital is ramping up for next year's sesquicentennial celebrations, which means that even for members familiar with Ottawa's charms there will be ample of new offerings to take-in and sample. Another reason for this event to qualify as capital is that 2017 is also the 20th anniversary of the establishment of CITAP.

Aside from the main AGM business agenda, programming will include the aforementioned pre-AGM fam tour, a networking dinner as well as an educational component. The latter will take place on the same day as the AGM.

CITAP has arranged a group rate and room block at the Novotel Ottawa, a trendy full-service 4-star hotel located close to many 'must see or do' Ottawa favourites. Stroll along the Rideau, immerse yourself in Group of Seven paintings at the National Art Gallery, sample your way through the Byward market or indulge in some retail therapy at the Rideau centre; it is all only a short walk away. Booking details will be communicated subsequently, so stay tuned. If in the mean time you would like more information about the property, please visit Novotel website. Thanks!

Canada's Sesquicentennial

2017 is going to be a special year. A once in a lifetime celebration - Canada's 150th anniversary as a nation - it's Sesquicentennial!

While Canadians from coast-to-coast will be having huge celebrations on July 1st, Ottawa is planning a full year of big, bold and exciting events that will truly make the capital the place to be - and Ottawa Tourism and our suppliers are excited to be your hosts.
This year the city is getting a bit of a 'face-lift' to make sure we are ready for next year, and our suppliers have joined in.
