DGT™ National Family Volunteer Day Family Service Fair
Doing Good Together

Date/Time: Friday, November 17, 5:30 - 7:30pm

Location: Midtown Global Market, 920 East Lake Street, Minneapolis

Doing Good Together is hosting a free, community-wide Family Service Fair in celebration of National Family Volunteer Day. Families are invited to come together to do simple, hands-on service projects; reflect on the importance of giving back; and learn about opportunities to get more involved as a family in the community. A diverse group of nonprofit organizations will be participating - each hosting a station with a fun, kid-friendly service activity for families to complete, such as:
  • Creating centerpieces for Thanksgiving meals served by Open Arms to families struggling with life-threatening illnesses.
  • Making Boomerang Bags, fabric bags to donate and replace single use plastic bags at local co-ops, encouraging people to think about the impact plastic bags have on nature.
  • Decorating bookmarks to accompany donated books distributed by Books for Africa (bring new or gently used books of any kind to donate!)
  • Creating baby essentials for young families in crisis through Bundles of Love.
Doing Good Together's National Family Volunteer Day Family Service Fair will be held in conjunction with the Midtown Global Market's Family Night, and will feature live, family entertainment from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Market's Central Plaza, which features a wide variety of ethnic dinner options.

Location: Loaves & Fishes dining sites are located throughout the metro area.

The mission of Loaves & Fishes is to provide nutritious meals to people in need in an atmosphere of dignity and hospitality. Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit meal program in Minnesota, serving a hot meal to those in need. We are the largest "open to the public" meal program in the state, serving 2,000 meals daily. In 2016, we served over a half a million nutritious meals, the most ever in our history, and are on track to outpace that number in 2017. We are always guided by our vision that all people, regardless of socioeconomic, cultural or ethnic background, deserve to meet their basic needs for food, dignity and respect. Looking for a volunteer opportunity for your family? Come help us serve hot, healthy meals to those in need. We invite your family to partner with our staff and other volunteers to serve our guests. We will have the food ready when you arrive around 4:30 - 5pm, and then open the doors to the public at which time your family will scoop, slice, and serve. You will be done with clean-up by 7 - 7:30pm. Loaves & Fishes' volunteers are at the heart of every meal! Our staff works with individual volunteers as well as groups or volunteer teams.
