Acquiring and Distributing Knowledge                        November 2, 2017
Regarding God's Creation
Gen 7:19  The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains  everywhere under the heavens  were covered. ... 8:4  In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 The water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.   - NASU       (Bold emphasis added.)
Pray daily for Tom Henderson and other flood victims.

Creation and Flood, Narrative and Timeline

On 11/30 we will look at the Biblical narrative and the timeline of events from the Creation trough the Flood. Why 11/30? We moved the early December meeting date a week earlier to avoid Christmas event conflicts. Why the Biblical narrative (again)? Because many
of us often get rusty on the Biblical information that God has provided for us. It is fitting in the Christmas season to pay careful attention to His word for that honors His name, lifts our spirit, and it puts our knowledge on a more firm foundation. Why the Creation through the Flood? At the start of the new year we will begin a half year study of geology from creation through the Flood and post Flood period. We will follow that with the archaeological sequence of events that lead from the end of the Flood to the development of civilization, language, and people groups dispersed over the Earth which meshes into ancient history that is well founded on solid archaeological evidence.

Yes, that is a lot of material in a giant and challenging project. The "Is Genesis History?" project has provided a
tremendous resource for this adventure in learning. We all saw the movie, and all learned much from the PhD experts as well as being awed. But they have provided something much better now. The Is Genesis History Project has produced an IGH Conference in which they brought in their PhD scientist to systematically present classroom lectures at the level of college survey courses. Our geology professors will be Dr. Andrew Snelling specializing in igneous rock geology, Dr. Steve Austin specializing in sedimentary rock geology, and Dr. Kurt Wise, a geologist specializing in paleontology, fossils and their formation. After we get educated in geology we will be taught a Biblical view of civilization by archaeologist Dr. Doug Petrovitch.

We will start with an Introduction to the big
picture view of geology, then get more detail about boundaries and periods, followed by how geophysics, sedimentology, and paleontology all relate to the Flood and then study lectures on dating issues. Finally, we will see how written language and people groups develop after the Flood consistent with the Bible. Eventually we will get to lectures on astronomy, biology and more detailed studies of the Hebrew scriptures. You will be amazed how well open-minded science supports the Biblical narrative.

We will generally look at part of two lectures in each of our meetings. I will do a little editing to avoid too much overlap among
the expert lecturers. I will also prepare some information on the technical terminology that is used so no one will need to fear the big words. We will stop at appropriate points for questions and discussion. We are going to learn a lot and I am excited! To prepare for all this we will start with the Bible's narrative texts regarding the Creation, fall, expulsion, preflood period, Flood, and post flood periods. This is going to be a great adventure so make plans to join us every month either in person or online.

Examples of Important YEC Scientific Evidences

Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
  • Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
  • For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record.
  • The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
  • In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the deep space motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all standard science are many assumptions that may be quite incorrect. At the top is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we are taught to assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.

There is more about the role of assumptions in science found on our website here. There are many more resources on young earth and young universe evidences here.

Prayer Needs and Praises!

Flooding victims!  Among these is our own bookseller Tom Henderson. Pray for God's provision, enabling, and protection as they make recovery efforts.

Christians around the world are being persecuted and murdered to force them out of their homes or to change their faith. Pray for protection for and support from Christian organizations in the West.

John Morris  is said to be recovering well now. But continue to pray for John and all the leaders, researchers, and writers in the YEC community.
