It's not too late to pledge!   Pledge cards can be found on the desk in the Narthex and placed in the offering plate.  "All things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee ."

Fr. David and Reuben will be on a pilgrimage to The Holy Land November 24 through December 5. Please keep them and all the pilgrims in your prayers.

Saint Luke Food Pantry December 2017 Extravaganza!  - Ways to participate include:
  1. Yes, We Can! - Bring your cans of staples throughout Advent.  Let's see how high we can build.  Canned items specifically requested are hearty soups, tuna, salmon, chicken, pasta meals, chili, fruit, and vegetables.  Please let this list guide your choices.
  2. $10 Giant gift cards - Easy to purchase at Good Shepherd.
  3. Boxes, bags, and jars - Items specifically requested are mac and cheese, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce (also available in cans), peanut butter, and jelly.  Please place these items, as usual, in the storage bins.
Yes We Can!   Yes we want your cans!  Good Shepherd is continuing a holiday food drive. Bring your canned food to church all throughout the next month. The Vestry plans to build a tower of canned food for the needy in the back of the church for the holidays. Let's see how big we can build it!  The food will be delivered to St. Luke Food Pantry before Christmas. Canned food only please.

Healthy Snacks for the Episcopal Center for Children (ECC) - December is the month that Good Shepherd provides healthy snacks for the children at ECC.  A list of the acceptable healthy snacks is located on the ushers table in the Narthex.  We will collect snacks throughout the month of December.  You may place your donations in the basket marked "ECC Snacks" located at the back of the sanctuary.

Celebrating Fr. Andrews' 50 Years of Ministry - The 50th anniversary of the Rev. John Andrews' ordination is December 9.   Many of us remember Fr. Andrews fondly as a frequent guest celebrant and pastoral associate at Good Shepherd prior to Fr. David's arrival.  If you would like to send a card or note to congratulate Fr. Andrews you may send it in care of his current parish, Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 336, Hornell, NY 14843.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Winter outreach for Shepherd's Table  Each November, we collect new thermal underwear, warm socks, hats, gloves and scarves for the clients at Shepherd's Table.  They can also use plain backpacks to put them in.  Our ingathering is from November 5 through November 29.  Personal size toiletries are always needed.  Beth Baker is our contact angel with Shepherd's Table if you have questions.
Mark your holiday calendars for Good Shepherd's annual

Christmas Fest after the 10:30 service on Sunday, December 10.  Join your fellow parishioners in the Education Wing for the Boy Scout Fundraiser Lunch of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches to be followed by the "Holiday Attire Contest."  Note: ugly sweaters and ties are encouraged and prizes will be awarded.
Then nothing will put you in the holiday mood like participating in the singing of favorite Christmas Carols and a party of punch and Christmas cookies.  The afternoon activities will end around 2:30 with a cookie exchange. To participate in this bring two dozen cookies. You will contribute the first dozen to be enjoyed at the party and then trade cookies from the second dozen with other exchange participants so each will go home with one dozen made up of a variety of different cookies.
Attendance not required, but highly recommended.  See/ email/call:  Vonnie Schoppelrei if you have questions.

The Christmas tree in the narthex is up with tag decorations for the families at Crossway Community.   Crossway Community offers a safe and supported home and community while parents learn vocational and life skills for work and community building.  Please consider taking a tag off the tree and give a gift of much needed household items for these families.  You can leave your unwrapped gift under the tree before Sunday, December 17.

Saturday, December 16, 9:30 am Christmas Simulcast Service  - We hope that you will plan to participate either in person at the Cathedral or online at  cathedral.org .  This unique service moves back and forth in English and Arabic between the Cathedral and Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, Palestine in this its 11th year.  Your participation means so much to the beleaguered Christians of Bethlehem whose faith dates back to the earliest days of Christianity. If you are able to come to the Cathedral, you can also take in the wondrous annual display of Nativity scenes from around the world.  Some folks who watch online from home invite friends and neighbors in for brunch and fellowship as they view the service together.  Greg and Lynn Wood, members of the Jerusalem Companion Diocese of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, are actively involved in planning and promoting the service.  We invite your questions.
