Retreat highlights

Eastern Iowa Heroin Initiative

During our quarterly retreat in October, we were fortunate to have Officer Al Fear speak about the increasing concerns related to heroin use and opioid addiction in our state.  The presentation shared alarming trends related to drug overdose in Iowa. Offic er Fear has been working with Sue Greene from Helping Services in the Dubuque area to establish CRUSH chapters and provide community education.
Please check out the Facebook page  Eastern Iowa Heroin Initiative for more information.

During our first day, we also held a panel including Al Fear, Sue Greene, Anthony Pudlo with Iowa Pharmacy Association and Jennifer Tiffany with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.  Th ese  groups  shared information about the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) and the increase in drug take back boxes and resources across the state.  We are excited to hear that we are getting thisclose to having take back boxes in all 99 counties.  The Iowa Pharmacy Association has also had great success with the Take Away program - please check out their website at this link

Officer Fear shared a video during his presentation that was developed by the DEA and FBI "Chasing the Dragon" - it can be found at  this link.
