Let's especially thank Nancy & Joel Kremsdorf for matching every dollar we raise. We are SO grateful for this special support!

We have a Book Signing coming up with Barbara Duffy on Wednesday, November 15th and don't forget to come to our next Adult Student Task Force Meeting on Friday, November 17th!

Meanwhile, our Youth Holiday Concert is all set to take place on December 3rd. Join us for some great holiday cheer and some holiday syncopation. Remember to visit our News & Events page for detailed information on this and any other upcoming activity.

Student of the Month!
Ellen Walterscheid

"My tap life began when I was 5 years old at Fran Schneider's School of Dance in Manhattan, Kansas. (Yes, there is a Manhattan, Kansas--we call it the Little Apple.) My sister took ballet, my brother did tumbling, but I just wanted to tap.

Fran Schneider was a man with white wavy hair who always ran around in a white leotard and black stirrup tights. His wife played piano for the classes. Then one day Fran ran off to Colorado with a student's mother. The school closed, but several years later a kind and bubbly woman named Randi Dale started giving tap lessons out of her basement. So I put on my tap shoes again and kept dancing till I was in high school.

Fast forward 30 years. I was working in New York as a writer, magazine editor, and journalism professor. I took up salsa dancing, which I love to this day. But in the midst of doing salsa--and being chided for trying to lead--I remembered how much I had loved to tap. As the old saying goes, with a tweak: "When the student is ready, the studio will appear." And there was ATDF right in my own backyard!

That was 2010. These past seven years of tapping have opened up worlds to me. I feel lucky to be able to learn from the superb artists we have as teachers and to meet the variety of classmates who feel driven to tap. As a lifelong pianist and poet, I also love the deep connection to music that we explore in every class.

My hair is turning white like Fran Schneider's. I'll probably never own a house with a basement like Mrs. Dale. But I plan to keep tapping for as long as I can." Ellen
