Gardens Ready for Winter

The Growing Together - Community Gardens held their annual Fall Clean-up
Community gardeners and volunteers
work to clear beds.
Workday on October 19. Gardeners and community members came together at all three sites (Good Shepherd Church, First Presbyterian Church, and St. Alban's Church) to help  clear plant material, collect compost, and harvest remaining produce in advance of the upcoming winter. Gardeners worked together to bring the gardening season to a close and made Fall Clean-up Work day a big success. Thank you to everyone that showed up to help prepare for the next growing season, we couldn't have done it without you!
Safer Routes at Washington Elementary School

In January of 2017, Healthy Lifestyles - Marshfield Area Coalition members Josh Miller (City of Marshfield) and Laura Zelenak (Marshfield Clinic Health Educator), met with Washington Elementary School staff and parents to discuss safety concerns regarding students walking and biking to school. Issues were identified and additional stakeholders such as the Marshfield Police Department, City of Marshfield, and School District of Marshfield were involved to help address problems. A new sidewalk and additional parking signs were installed, a new traffic flow was introduced, and the city approved the addition of an adult crossing guard.

Our hats go off to the great work this group did in such a short amount of time - thanks for making it safer for our kids to walk and bike to school!

If you are interested in making your child's school safer, contact Laura Zelenak at 715-221-8400 or [email protected].
