November 2013 KRonicles

Greetings!

Almost three months ago we all said our final farewell of the summer to the place we call 'home!'  Since that time we have held our Fall Barbecue, the KR pool has been completely upgraded, areas have been repainted and many of us have had get togethers and sleepovers with our bunkmates and friends.  We have so many additional plans for the coming months and we will be keeping you informed as new upgrades take place.  I am very excited be able to present to you all, this year's first edition of the KRonicles.  As you read through it, I am sure there will be a smile on your face and plenty of great memories!  I am looking forward to seeing the great photos coming in after our first WEAR KR Day!!!  Keep checking on our website for new photos and information and look for information regarding our Camp Reunion that will be held in January.  Till next time...

In Friendship, Love and Spirit,

Marc

Leadership Team

As announced via email, the 2014 Leadership Team is new-and-improved, with a completely different setup on Boy's and Girl's Sides. Marc Rauch and Ilene Joachim will return as our dynamic duo, Director and Associate Director, ready to lead us into another wonderful summer. Carol Blass will also be back to continue her amazing work as Girl's Head Counselor. Our own Geri Liss has left the Office and entered Girl's Side as Assistant Girl's Head Counselor. As a mother of three KR girls, we know she will be an incredible contribution to Girl's Side. Michael Trontz will resume his role as Boy's Head Counselor, and his assistant is none other than our own Jeff Rothman. Josh Stone will return to lead the Waterfront and Alisa Chafitz has taken over the Health Center.

Walk for Jackie
On September 29th, about 30 current and alumni campers and staff took place in a walk for the Ovarian Cancer Coalition, in honor of our Head of Arts and Crafts and 2013 Torchbearer Jackie Fried. The Kinder Ring team worked extremely hard raising money and came out as one of the top fundraising teams at the event. Fun shirts were made for the team to wear as they walked by Sondra Posner. Jackie and her band, the Mood Swings, performed at the starting and ending points of the walk. Everyone had an amazing time listening to her band and supporting such a great cause.
November 22nd is Display KR Day, so wear all Kinder Ring apparel wherever you go! Whether it is at school, work, hanging out with friends, or anywhere else, show the world your KR Pride! Make sure you're taking pictures, because the best picture will be posted on our website and the person who sent it in will win a prize! Send all pictures to office@campkr.com.

Open Houses are coming to a town near you in New Jersey, Rockland County, Westchester County, and on Long Island, so start spreading the word! Our best advertisement is you, so make sure you're telling all your friends (and their parents) about your amazing summer at our home-away-from-home!

Our Annual Fall Barbecue was held on October 6th at camp, and with over 200 people in attendance, we had an unbelievable day. Campers, staff, alumni, and their families, as well
as prospective families were able to wander the grounds and participate in numerous activities. It was cold and damp, but even Mother Nature couldn't ruin a Kinder Ring day. Headley and the rest of the kitchen staff pulled together a delicious indoor barbecue and, luckily, the heavy rains ended just before the start of the event. Jeff Rothman led fun activities in the Cultural Center for kids. Unfortunately our hayride had to be cancelled, but there were still plenty of pumpkins to be hand-painted by campers and their families. Campers had fun exploring the property, both reminiscing about the summer of 2013 and getting excited about the summer of 2014!!!

DOROT
Over the summer, all campers created handmade cards to commemorate the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. We would like to congratulate Marissa and Emma on winning the DOROT 2013 Handmade Commemorative Card Project! Their cards were featured on the front page of DOROT's National Day of Service and Remembrance Postcard. Well done Marissa and Emma, way to show off your artistic talent and American pride! Check out the winning cards by clicking on the DOROT logo above.
