Bullying Awareness Week
November 14-18th. This is a great opportunity for everyone to make sure they are educating themselves on what Bullying is and how it can affect you and those you care about.

What is bullying?
Bullying is a conscious, willful, deliberate, repeated and hostile activity marked by an imbalance of power, intent to harm and/or threat of aggression.
Here is an acronym to help you and your child remember if its bullying or not...
HARM
Hurtful
Actions or Words
Repeated
More then once to hurt or control others

DID YOU KNOW “… when peers had the confidence and courage to intervene, the bullying ended within 10 seconds in the majority of playground episodes.

Kindness Day
Join Banff Elementary, Elizabeth Rummel School and the Banff Community Foundations and celebrate Kindness Day on November 15th.

What is Kindness Day?

Pledging to commit just one act of kindness will start a WAVE:

Hold the door open for a stranger, compliment your neighbor on their collection of garden gnomes, let your partner have control of the TV remote for the evening.

However you decide to celebrate remember that the best thing about Kindness Day is that it doesn’t cost a thing!

Here are some great books you can read with your children on kindness...

   BUCKET FILLING

A Grade 4 student and their Grandpal

There are so many great things happening in our schools...
Banff Elementary - Some of our Grade 6 attended  WE DAY also Grade 6 girls club is offered every Tuesday.  Soul Warmers is up and running for grades 3 and 4 on Wednesdays over the lunch hour.  Classroom presentations focusing on Kindness, Wellness Wheel and buidling tools to support self regulation.

Elizabeth Rummel School:
Our Lucky Bucket fillers are announced at the beginning of every week  and students names are posted in a giant heart for the whole school to see.  On Tuesday afternoons we have Kimochi time where kids and teachers discuss the importance of knowing and accepting all of their emotions. Also, common school and home scenarios are presented where students learn to practice potentially tricky situations and handle them in emotionally healthy ways.

Lawrence Grassi:
Grade 4's are starting their Grandpal letter exchange which will last at least until June and often much longer than that. This is collaboration between CRPS/RFTS and Canmore FCSS! Cross generational connections are made and every year it's a beautiful fun filled event that both the Granpals and kidpals mutually benefit!
The Grade 4 students have also been learning about effective ways to handle potentially difficult emotional situations.

BCHS:
In November RFTS and the Youth Worker from AHS (Tanya Wood) will be going into BCHS and working with the grades 7-11 to talk about making informed decisions with digital devices. The main topic will be  on sexting.
