In 2016 I decided to participate in My Teaching Partner.  I didn't exactly know what I was getting into, but I knew that I wanted a fresh start and new ideas/approaches to bring to the classroom.  Initially, I had set two goals for myself, 1. To give each child a "voice" and 2. To be a better communicator/listener with the children.  Throughout the process of My Teaching Partner, I far exceeded my goals and learned more than I had ever expected.  The following are a few examples that I was able to bring back and incorporate into the classroom:

*Positive climate in the classroom - Laughter, smiles and a place where  

children wanted to be!

*Attentive and responsive to children's needs - Teacher sensitivity!

   

*State clear expectations for behaviors, and give attention to positive behaviors in the classroom

     

*Bringing "real world" connections to the children through science, art, and food related projects

  

*Providing individual feedback and encouragement to each child

    

*Asking open ended questions, using repetition and extension, along with providing advanced language (my personal favorite)

Language, language, language is so incredibly important in the classroom; and taking the time to listen to each individual child.  I absolutely love asking children questions and giving them the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas.  There is no wrong answer in preschool - but, you can guide them to the right the answer.

I am truly thankful to have been a part of the My Teaching Partner process.  I use it daily in my classroom and I will continue to use it as long as I am teaching!
