So Eventful Healdsburg Senior Living Community
Bike Tour Registration Opens with New Partner

The registration for the 31st Annual Healdsburg Bike Tour is officially open and we are pleased to announce our partnership with Healdsburg Rotary Sunrise.  The tour scheduled for April 29, 2017 will stage once again from Healdsburg Community Center where we moved the tour last year.  Healdsburg Rotary Sunrise has entered into a three year agreement to purchase the bike tour from the Healdsburg Chamber, learning the ropes as they go along.  The price this year is $85.00 per person and includes plentiful, healthy snacks at rest stops along the way, the collectible bandana map and lunch with beer, wine and entertainment at the conclusion of the ride.  Routes through some of Healdsburg's most scenic valleys include a 20 mile route, a 35 mile route and a 60 mile route.  The routes are well signed and include SAG support and CHP escorts.  We are always looking for volunteers to help with this fun event.  If you have any questions or would like to volunteer please contact Aleena Decker at [email protected] or 433-6935.

Four Candidates Apply for  Chamber Board Seats

Four chamber members in good standing have applied for the three vacant seats on the Healdsburg Chamber Board of Directors

Dan Maraviglia an attorney with Passalacqua, Mazzoni, Gladden, Lopez and Maraviglia LLP, has previously  served on the Chamber Board and enjoys  being actively involved in economic development and the business community.  Dan also previously served on the Government Review Committee.  He is  offering his business and legal acumen and institutional memory.

Evelyn Mitchell  is an active member of the Sonoma County Humane Society Board and was actively involved in negotiations with the City of Healdsburg when they were completing and opening the Healdsburg Center for Animals.  She would like to maintain a balance between visitor serving businesses and others in the business community.

Sam Tesconi works at Quivira Vineyard and is involved with providing customized guest experiences.  He would like to use his expertise in marketing and promotion to help Healdsburg businesses maximize their potential by furthering the use of advertising and digital marketing strategies that will keep customers  engaged and improving how consumers interact with local businesses.

Nancy Woods from Merriam Vineyards has served on the Board of the Wine Road and is currently a Board member of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers.  A thirty year veteran of the wine industry she represents a perspective that reflects the wineries in the surrounding valleys.

You should be receiving your ballot via email.  The last day to submit your ballot is Friday, November 18 at 5:00 pm.  Please let us know if you have any questions. I can be reached at [email protected] or 433-6935

Local Measure Endorsements

Healdsburg Ballot Measure R

The Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed a YES vote on Healdsburg ballot Measure R which increases the annual growth cap from an average of 30 market rate housing units per year to 70 per year, with over 50% of those units  to be in multi-family homes, live/work, townhouses and rentals.  This is the kind of housing that the community has been asking for.  In addition Measure R increases the inclusionary requirement from 15% to 30%  doubling the number of affordable units that will be built by the private sector.   In making this endorsement the board made the following statement, "A healthy business climate is dependent upon  a secure workforce.  In order to assure a secure workforce, stable housing must be available to all segments of the community."

For further information on the Yes on R campaign go to www.werhealdsburg.org

SCLA takes a stand on Measure L

The Sonoma County Lodging Association (SCLA) opposes the proposed Measure L - Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) increase initiative.

Although we do agree with the equity of the measure bringing all communities up to the current 12% tax on lodging that cities and towns have imposed, we do oppose the measure because there is a significant gap in the collection of TOT funds by the County Tax Collections office. We see this as unfair and inequitable to those property owners and managers who follow the laws of acquiring a TOT tax number and collecting taxes from our visitors.

The 9% TOT tax generated in the unincorporated area earned $12,530,502 in 2015 which was the highest TOT tax revenue ever. Initially, as reported in a September 2014 County audit, the collection gap in TOT was thought to be somewhere between $500,000 and $1,300,000 depending on the metric used in the report. Recently, it has come to the attention of the Sonoma County Lodging Association that the actual gap for 2015 may be in excess of $2,800,000. Since TOT collection began in 1986 it has been pointed out that the potential uncollected tax over the last 10 years is estimated at over $20,000,000.

The SCLA strongly believes the County should focus on putting a system in place to collect TOT due from all eligible entities and fine those who are not playing by the rules before asking the lodging entities to collect more taxes from our visitors.
