A Get Downtown Thank You

Thank you to all the businesses and organizations that participated in our Third Annual Get Downtown Business Showcase and Community Resource Fair. I am grateful to all of you for your energy and enthusiasm. We were certainly blessed with wonderful weather and a joyous crowd on October 14th.  I heard nothing but positive comments about the event, like this from a visitor, "I live in Arizona and am visiting Healdsburg, wish I could live here" or another person who said, "We used to live in Healdsburg and it wasn't like this then, now I wish we could move back!"  Many people commented on the family atmosphere, the number of cute kids and dogs, and everyone I spoke with was impressed with how many diverse and interesting small businesses there are in Healdsburg.

Looking forward to next year!

Thank you,
Carla Howell

Spirit of Sonoma County Award 2015

Each year in December, the Sonoma County Economic Development Board sponsors the Spirit of Sonoma County Awards Luncheon, where an award is given from various organizations in each of the communities, to a person who embodies those particular characteristics that we feel makes them an invaluable member of the Sonoma County community.  Because the Healdsburg Chamber is a business organization we have always chosen a member from the business community to receive the award.

The Chamber Board of Directors has chosen Mark Decker to receive the award for Healdsburg this year.  A long time resident of Healdsburg, Mark is a Vice President at Exchange Bank. Along with his duties on the Healdsburg Chamber Board of Directors, where he has served more than once as Chairman, Mark has also been very involved with Access Healdsburg TV at Healdsburg High School and Healdsburg Noon Rotary.  Mark can also often be found volunteering at numerous events around town, including the Annual Rotary Crab Feast where he not only handles all of the audio visual aspects of the event, he also  manages the auction payment programming.

The Chamber Board of Directors is most pleased to be able to present Mark Decker as our 2015 Spirit of Sonoma County Awardee.  Mark will receive his award at the annual Spirit of Sonoma County Luncheon December 4 in Rohnert Park.

Downtown Holiday Party

The Annual Holiday Party is scheduled for Friday, November 27 from 4-8pm.  Santa Claus will once again be delivered  by antique fire truck to the Healdsburg Plaza where he will be seated in the gazebo to greet children from 4-6pm. The Downtown Business District has arranged for two horse drawn carriages that will be located on the corner of Matheson and Center Streets.  Oops the Clown and Frenchy the face painter will be located all evening on the corner of North and Center, the Healdsburg Chorus will be singing from 6:30-7:30 in the Oakville Grocery Patio,  the Windsor Childrens Choir will perform on the corner of North and Healdsburg Avenue and the Santa Rosa Junior College Dickens Singers will be in Victorian costume performing while roaming around downtown.  This event is a rain or shine event, however, for the safety of the horses, the carriages will not run if it rains.

Rewards Card for Local Employees
H.E.R.O. Healdsburg Employee Recognition Opportunity

Donna Tokagawa from The Taste of Tea has created a local employees rewards card called H.E.R.O.  "Healdsburg Employee Recognition Opportunity", and she wants to share this idea and participation with the rest of the Healdsburg business community.  Here's how it works.  If you are a Healdsburg employer you can give HERO cards to your employees to use for special discounts and purchases at local businesses, and if you are a local business you can sign up to accept the card.  It's that simple.  If you are interested, click here to download form.  Examples of discounts include...two for one, or a percentage off of a purchase.  Make your offer simple.  We will list all offers on our website so everyone can check for updates.  All participating businesses will be listed on the back of the HERO card. Questions, aleena@healdsburg.com.

Transient Occupancy Tax Information
Provided by the City of Healdsburg

The Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), also referred to as a
"bed tax" or "room tax", is a tax assessed to visitors staying in all lodging establishments within the city limits. This includes hotels, motels, resorts, inns, suites and B&Bs. The current TOT rate in Healdsburg is 12%.

In 2004, voters passed a ballot measure to ensure there would be an ongoing funding source for parks, recreation and open space designating 10% to fund our Community Services. The remaining 2% goes into the General Fund to support public safety. No other tax dollars fund the Community Services Department.

"Healdsburg Community Services has something for everyone. We are fortunate to live in a community that prides itself in programs for all ages from youth to seniors. Our local Senior Center has resources and programs for people 55 and over, a place to meet and learn new things. The Transient Occupancy Tax makes this possible." - Mary Lou Eddinger

6th Annual Tree Lighting and Tractor Parade

The Geyserville Chamber of Commerce announces the date of the 6th annual Tree Lighting and Tractor Parade.  The tradition of stringing lights on hundred thousand dollar farm equipment, while fairly new to this community, promises to be a long standing one.  Every year the crowds get larger and larger.  Last year estimated attendance was 2500, even in the rain.

Festivities begin with the arrival of Santa at the Park and Ride Plaza at 5pm.  Kids will get a chance to sit on his lap and relay all their holiday wishes while parents can snap a photo (photo service not provided). The tree lighting and caroling begin at 6pm and the main event, the parade of lights, begins at approximately 6:30pm.  The parade will begin at the north end of town and make one pass through the downtown area.  The route is approximately 1.5 miles long so there will be plenty of room to see the lights.

Other features include:
*Shops, tasting rooms & restaurants open
*Chili & Cornbread at Firehouse $5 or unwrapped toy
*Hot Dogs and beverages at the Odd Fellows Hall

For more information on entering or just enjoying, contact Karen Waelde at 707-857-1728 or check out the Geyserville Chamber website at www.geyservillecc.com.
