The Holidays are a great time to give. They’re often the catalyst to give money to the church, food to the foodbank and time to various hamper organizations. What if you could make an impact year round by donating time though? You may have noticed the Big Brothers Big Sisters signs up around Stettler and wondered about them.
Helping Big Brother Big Sisters is a truly life changing experience and one that takes as little as 3-4 hours a week. With 21 children waiting for matches in the program, your commitment to being a Big Brother Big Sister would have a direct impact on a child and family in this community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is run through Stettler’s Heartland Youth Centre and is in desperate need of community support. This program matches children in need of adult mentorship with adults who have 3-4 hours a week to commit to making an impact on the life of a youth in this community. If you are a student in the High School or have a child in High School who you think would be a fit the HYC also runs an in-school mentorship program where the older child spends 1-2 hours a week with their match.
Spending time as a Big Brother Big Sister does not need to be an elaborate affair. It is very flexible time wise and encourages everyday tasks like going for walks, cooking together, swimming, and just talking and hearing what your match has to say.
