Superintendent Statement

It's December already and December is a HUGE month for so many reasons.
First of all, its the end of the semester, so its really important for you to get all of your work completed and finish the semester strong. You can do it!!! Stay in close contact with your teachers so they can help you. I hope everyone took full advantage of our November attendance contest, November 95, to not only get caught up on all of your assignments, but to also qualify for some great prizes.

As we wind down the 2016 calendar year (can you believe it???? 2017 is almost here!), you have so much to look forward to. There are the obvious big holidays in December to look forward to, such as National Cookie Day (December 4), National Cotton Candy Day (December 7), National Chocolate Covered Anything Day (December 16), and National Maple Syrup Day (December 17). So, no matter your favorite December holiday, get all of your schoolwork done so you can fully enjoy these holidays and all of the others. And, of course, there's the huge break at the end of December -
you're out of school on December 22 and don't come back until January 4!

Have an enjoyable holiday season with your family and friends.
Be safe and we'll see you back bright and early on January 4 for the 2nd semester.

I Am Thankful For...
At VCS, we are thankful for our fantastic teachers and staff, our hard-working students, and our dedicated families! This year, Coach Mac gave an extra credit assignment for her students over Thanksgiving. Our students are thankful for many wonderful things in their lives. We appreciate that you are thankful for us too!

"There is so much to be Thankful for, as I know blessings are among us all! One of the things I am thankful for is VCS and that you are here with us in our awesome school."  - Coach Mac
"I am thankful for education, even though I don't like school, I know I need it. I am thankful for my teachers, who are nice and understand."  - Artyom Howard
"I'm thankful for VCS and the teachers there that are always there to help."  - Seth Nichols

VCS Presents

Mary Callicoat, VCS Teacher/Intervention Specialist, presented at OCALICON (Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence)! Her presentation was titled "Targeting the Tourettes Triangle: How one Family Overcame the Obstacles."
In her presentation, she defined the Tourettes Triangle, explaining that it is 3 parts: Tourettes, OCD, and ADHD/ADD. She detailed her son's journey and diagnostic history, giving examples of items they used to help him be successful in the classroom.
Great job, Ms. Callicoat!

The Kindness Project
VCS Guidance Counselor, Mrs. DePompei, is starting "The Kindness Project" with our students. Join The Kindness Project at VCS! Hold the door for someone else; donate gently used toys; clean up a mess you didn't make; let someone go ahead of you in line.

Online Learning Day: Kenneth Mangan
VCS student Kenneth Mangan and his family were invited by Ohio eSchool Families and Friends Coalition to present a Golden Apple Award to Senator Ecklund, the state senator from their district, for his support of school choice.
During Online Learning Day at the state house, they met with an aide of the State Representative from their district. They were also surprised to have a meeting with Senator Ecklund himself! He personally came to the atrium to meet them. Ken was thrilled!
They also had the opportunity to tour the statehouse, where Ken got to see his senator's office, sit in the Senate chamber, and witness a new representative being sworn into the House during session. Ken is taking Government this semester, so this was a wonderful learning experience for him as he was able to witness what takes place in government first-hand!
