2017 Conference: Request for Proposals & Conference Committee
|
Request for Proposals – OPEN until January 10, 2017
Due to the conference being held September 17-20, 2017 the RFP for conference workshops will end at the beginning of January. Take this opportunity to submit a workshop (1.5, 2, or 3 hours in duration) or a poster presentation. If you have any questions or concerns about the submission process, please contact Amy: [email protected].

Call for Nominations for Conference Committee
Nominate a colleague or self-nominate to be on the 2017 Conference Committee. Send a letter of intent, with a focus on the strengths you would bring to the committee, and purpose of serving at this time.
Nominations are due
January 6, 2017.
The committee will commence the third week of January.
Committee member expectations are as follows:
- Four to five conference calls
- One in person meeting at the Kalahari
- Responsible for social event, networking events, recruitment of sponsors / exhibitors / advertisers
- Provides assistance in workshop proposal review
- Attend conference in September 2017

A Statement from NASW-PA Regarding the 2016 Election Results
|
A deeply contentious national election is over, and we begin the process of transitioning to a new administration. As social workers, regardless of how we feel personally about the outcome, we must acknowledge the emotional wounds and strive together to promote healing in addition to protecting and advancing social justice.
With respect to social workers from across the political spectrum, we have heard from many within our ranks who are experiencing a combination of shock, grief, anger, and/or fear upon learning the results of the election. This reaction is especially acute among groups, including but not limited to African-American, Latino, Jewish, and Muslim populations, the GLBT community, persons with disabilities, and women who are survivors of sexual assault. Many of us may feel personally targeted and/or at risk from some of the rhetoric expressed during the political campaign season. Licensure Cycle Ends February 28, 2017
|
Here are some things you should know about renewing your license in February:
- Our current cycle is from March 1, 2015 – February 28, 2017. Each cycle is two years, the next cycle will be March 1, 2017 – February 28, 2019
- For your renewal of a license, 30 clock hours of continuing education must be completed by approved providers.
- Excess clock hours may not be carried over. Of those 30 hours, three must be in ethics (either online or in person), three Act 31 clock hours if it’s your first time renewing, after the first renewal two Act 31 clock hours are required. Ten clock hours must be done live, the rest may be done online.
- The Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers will mail literature to your address on how to renew your license before the February 28, 2017 deadline.
- It is not necessary to send copies of your certificates to the State Board of Social Workers for renewal, the State Board will contact you if they need copies during an audit.
- Keep records of your certificates for at least four years from your license date.
Most common pre-approved CEU providers: (for more pre-approved providers see 47.37 of the regulations):
- The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
- Graduate and undergraduate programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
- The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and its state and local affiliates
- The Clinical Social Work Association (CSWA) and its state and local affiliates
- The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. (NBCC)
- The American Psychological Association (APA)
- The Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program developed by the Association of Social Work Boards
- The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

Signups for the NASW Pennsylvania Book Club are now open. The book club connects virtually through a LinkedIn group to discuss relevant books for social workers.
