Community Action
A Message from Executive Director Renée Bruce
This is a week to gather with friends and family, and to give thanks for the good things we have in life. Personally, I am grateful to be surrounded by so many thoughtful and caring people at Community Action. I was reminded of this earlier this month as we gathered for our annual Fall All Staff meeting. As a large agency, it's no small task to get everyone together under one roof!

This year we had much to celebrate as 28 employees were recognized for their years of service to Community Action, ranging from 5 - 30 years! Our people are what make this place so special, and I'm proud of every Community Action employee for their dedication to the people we serve. On behalf of all of us at Community Action, thank you for your commitment to our mission and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Columbia Bank is launching its 2nd Annual Warm Hearts Winter Drive fundraising campaign on November 21st!

For the second year in a row, the Community Action Hillsboro Family Shelter has been chosen as a recipient of the Columbia Bank Warm Hearts Winter Drive campaign. Columbia Bank is aware  of the growing homeless population and the challenges overcrowded and underfunded organizations face during the winter. With the Warm Hearts Winter Drive, Columbia Bank wants to draw attention to this growing problem, and encourage the community to get involved and give back. Cash Donations and new warm winter clothing can be donated at local branches throughout Washington County.

November 29 is Giving Tuesday

We all know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Giving Tuesday? On Tuesday, November 29, you can join people from across the country on a day devoted to philanthropy by giving to your favorite charity. And for a little extra incentive, anyone who makes a gift to Community Action on November 29 before 2pm will have their name entered into a drawing to receive two free passes to the Oregon Zoo.  Mark your calendars!
Our Board Members in Action
Some of our most committed volunteers are the members of our Board of Directors. They give so much of their time to help guide the organization, all while managing their own careers and lives. This fall you may have seen a number of our board members in the news, but in case you missed it be sure to check out these links:

Mayor Jerry Willey is recognized for his years of service to Hillsboro by the Oregon League of Cities.   Read More

Leda Garside is featured in the Oregon Wine Press for her work with Tu ality Healthcare's ¡Salud! Services program as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.   Read More

Lynn Baker and her wife Eve Lonnquist are pioneering a unique way to combat climate change with their farm.

Donor Profile:  McDonald Jacobs

Many thanks to our friends at McDonald Jacobs who volunteered at the Hillsboro Family Shelter this month. They helped with some deep cleaning and organizing of the children's play area and storage closet. Who better than a team of accountants to help keep things organized?
