Spotlight on Novi History
Churches In Early Novi
In early Novi, the Methodist church dates back to 1830 when services were conducted in homes, and later in a school building. In 1875, the fifteen members chose a lot and began construction of a church in the west part of Novi Corners. The cost of the lot was two hundred dollars, and the cost of the building was seventeen hundred and fifty dollars.

When complete, it was debt free with enough money left to build horse sheds for the worshipers. This church was dedicated on March 22, 1876. The frame building measured twenty-eight by forty-five feet and could seat one hundred and sixty people. The church had a bell tower with a bell weighing 750 pounds. In the spring of 1997, the church was moved to its current site on Beck Road. Unfortunately, sometime in the church's history, the bell tower and the bell were lost.

The First Baptist church can be traced back to 1846 in Novi's history and has been in continual operation since that date. The congregation built a church in 1847 at a cost of one thousand eighty dollars. The  first church was torn down and another was built at the cost of three thousand eight hundred dollars.

It was located near the corner of Novi Road and Grand River, next to  the town hall. The church was destroyed by fire in 1913 and rebuilt in 1914 at a cost of six thousand dollars.  Later the horse sheds were removed and a new parsonage was built there.

About 1961, a brick church was built near the corner of Taft and Eleven Mile Roads and continues to serve the Novi community.
Residents who worshiped in other denominations needed to travel outside the township in order to attend their church services.
