Neighborhood Libraries Adopt A Sister Library
The SAY Detroit Play Center is  a youth training center on the northeast side of Detroit with a mission of developing readers and great people.  The brainchild of Mitch Albom, the center features a state-of-the-art recording studio, a synthetic turf football field donated in part by Matthew Stafford, and a 7,000 square-feet digital learning center, among other amenities.  The center is building a lending library and wants our help! Beginning Friday, November 25-Friday, January 20, donations will be accepted for any gently-used books (reading levels K-12) for young people to increase their reading.  Books can be dropped off at the box next to the holiday tree or at the five Neighborhood Libraries (Salem-South Lyon, Northville District, Wixom Library, Lyon Township, and Walled Lake City Library).  Thank you for giving the gift of reading!

Raising a Reader in Novi!
Sign up for the Library's Raising a Reader program for prizes, reading incentives and of course to read!

This program encourages parents to read with their young child (ages 3-5).  Reading is critical to a young person's development and school achievements.  The Novi Library wants to be an important part of that development.

Click here  for your reading log and once you have read 100 books return it to the Library for a prize and a new log!  Reading 1,000 books allows for your child to earn their name in a Novi Library book and attend a special party.  For more information stop by the First Floor Information Desk.

Congratulations to Mila Yee who has already read 300 books!

Thank you to the Friends of the Novi Library, Vibe Credit Union, Novi Rotary and No vi Community School District for sponsoring this program.  Your support of reading, education and growth to the community is priceless!

Spotlight on Novi History
Travel to Michigan became easier with the completion of the Erie Canal in October 1825, cutting the travel time between Boston and Detroit from three months to about two weeks. Since overland travel meant using Indian trails through virgin forest and swamps, early settlers needed to travel light. In the spring of 1825, Erastus Ingersoll began clearing land and building a log cabin near the corner of what is now Ten Mile and Haggerty roads. Shortly after came John Gould, then Pitts Taft and Joseph Eddy. Soon after came William Yerkes whose large family later followed him into the wilderness. Other settlers came to the area, cleared and farmed the land, making agriculture a very important part of early Novi.
Homeowners Association Spotlight
Royal Crown subdivision is located on the northwest corner of Nine Mile and Taft Road. The subdivision was built between 1992 and 1998 and contains approximately 300 homes. One interesting fact about Royal Crown is that even though it is located in the City of Novi, it is part of the Northville school district.
