Raising a Reader in Novi!
Our Raising a Reader program is off to a great start!  So far the Library has had 147 children register for the program, 11 have read their first 100 books and one person has already read 200!  Way to go readers!

This program encourages parents to read with their young child (ages 3-5).  Reading is critical to a young person's development and school achievements.  The Novi Library wants to be an important part of that development.

Click here  for your reading log and once you have read 100 books return it to the Library for a prize and a new log!  Reading 1,000 books allows for your child to earn their name in a Novi Library book and attend a special party.  For more information stop by the First Floor Information Desk.

Thank you to the Friends of the Novi Library, Vibe Credit Union, Novi Rotary and Novi Community School District for sponsoring this program.  Your support of reading, education and growth to the community is priceless!

Spotlight on Novi History
How Did Novi Get Its Name?
There are several different versions of this story. The most accepted one takes place about 1830, when a meeting was held to talk about breaking away from Farmington, and choosing a name for the township.   Many suggestions were offered, but people wanted a short name, easy to pronounce and write.  At the meeting, Dr. J. C. Emery proposed Novi, which was suggested by his wife, because it was easily written and not a common name. Although there were many objections, by 1832 Novi was adopted as the township's name and separated from Farmington.

Many people believe that Novi was named because it was the sixth tollgate between Lansing and Detroit. This cannot be true since Novi had its name over twenty years before the tollgate was built.
