NuMat Technologies & Versum Materials

Versum Materials, Inc., a leading global materials supplier to the semiconductor industry, and NuMat Technologies, a pioneer in the design and integration of atomically-engineered materials into gas delivery, separation and purification systems, announced a global, commercial agreement to offer a new line of products for the safe storage and delivery of high-value gases used in semiconductor manufacturing.

The new product line is called ION-X® and is based on revolutionary Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs), which can selectively adsorb, store and safely deliver ultrahigh purity gases at sub-atmospheric pressures. "This relationship with Versum represents a strategic pairing of NuMat's differentiated technology platform with Versum's operational, quality and commercial leadership in the semiconductor industry. We look forward to executing against a shared mission of delivering value and innovation to customers," stated Ben Hernandez, Chief Executive Officer at NuMat Technologies. Improved Chemical Tracking - Unity Lab Services

ThermoFisher's Unity Lab Services can assist in managing the inventory of chemicals.  The recent updates to Biovia's new CisPro platform has led to some exciting new developments. The CisPro cloud allows for the management of chemicals from receipt through disposal. The new system provides improved chemical tracking and reporting. Users are able to ensure accurate, real-time chemical safety and inventory data, monitor expiration dates and chemical shelf life and uncover opportunities for waste minimization and cost reduction.

An unlimited number of material classes can be tracked, including reference standards, with multiple security layers. Inventories for individual business units can be maintained independently, yet managed collectively under the same company account.  To learn more, click here
LanzaTech & Virgin Atlantic

LanzaTech has been a partner of Virgin Atlantic for years now. The partnership is working towards a more renewable jet fuel blend from the recycled emissions of steel mills. An innovative low carbon fuel project has taken a significant step forward after successfully producing 1,500 US gallons of jet fuel.

LanzaTech and Virgin Atlantic are now set to continue to work with Boeing and a host of industry colleagues to complete the additional testing aircraft and engine manufacturers require before approving the fuel for first use in a commercial aircraft. Sir Richard Branson said: "This is a real game changer for aviation and could significantly reduce the industry's reliance on oil within our lifetime. Virgin Atlantic was the first commercial airline to test a bio-fuel flight and continues to be a leader in sustainable aviation." For more information, click here

2017 IIN Symposium
Nanotechnology: From the World's Smallest Machines to Life-Saving Medicines, September 28, 2017 - 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, Hilton Orrington Hotel, Grand Ballroom, 1710 Orrington Avenue, Evanston, IL.

The International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) represents and unites more than $1 billion in nanotechnology research, educational programs, and supporting infrastructure. The IIN embodies an extraordinary combination of scientific capabilities, outreach programs, and partnerships that provide a unique and fertile ground for making substantial contributions to the field and ensure that the U.S. remains a world leader in nanotechnology.

The IIN has also had an economic impact. Since its inception, more than 1,800 products and systems have been commercialized worldwide. Twenty start-up companies have been launched based upon IIN research, and they have attracted over $700 million in venture capital funding.  ISTP is happy to be a sponsor of this event.  For speakers and registration, click here
Nanotechnology Open House

Join Oakton Community College for a free Open House on Thursday, August 17, 2017 highlighting nanotechnology - one of the most rapidly growing career fields. On the cutting edge of science, nanotechnology plays a critical role in biology, chemistry, engineering, medicine, and physics - from building microprocessors and delivering anti-cancer drugs efficiently to making clothes more stain resistant and improving sunscreen absorption. Projections are that the field will need six million workers and 2.5 million support personnel, with salaries ranging from $30,000 to $95,000 (depending on the level of education).

Attend the open house from 6-7:30 pm in the ISTP Conference Center at 8045 Lamon Avenue. Connect with representatives of local nanotech companies, discuss Oakton's nanotech curriculum with faculty and alumni, and tour the laboratory. Refreshments will be served. To register, click here
Vetter employees are running for a cause

Make a statement denouncing racial hatred and violence! That is the goal of the Race against Hate, organized annually every Father's Day. Susanne Lemaine, Vice President VDS Chicago, a participant in past races, was joined this year by her colleagues and fellow runners Madison Doubleday and Paul Lindsey. Be they a casual walker or a competitive runner, the event attracted thousands of people from the surrounding Chicagoland and is a memorial to Ricky Byrdsong, the former coach of the Northwestern University Men's Basketball team.
