Nuanced reviews, incisive radio coverage on
A Child's Guide to Innocence

There are some fine writers in the Portland press, and we were fortunate to have some excellent reviews written that truly captured the nuances of our last production A Child's Guide to Innocence.  Here's a sample.  Click the link for the whole review:

"Another wonderful example of high quality theater right here within the city limits...Great writing, with great interpretation is a performance not to be missed."

The Portland Sun

"The bonds and impasses of these women are wonderfully subtle, with great variation in range and tone, and their fraught familial dynamics are utterly convincing."

The Portland Phoenix

"'A Child's Guide to Innocence'...offers some interesting and moving variations in the category (of family drama) and is well worth a visit...some may find a tear in their eye after seeing this touching play that seeks to find the good in people."

The Portland Press Herald

We were also absolutely thrilled to be invited on Debi Davis' terrific radio program MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS (WLOB Portland).  That one-hour interview, hosted by Davis and co-hosted by A Child's Guide lead actress Laura Houck, covered lots of ground, including Snowlion Rep's past history, current show, future plans, as well as the business of show business and why it's always important to produce theater despite the challenges.  Give the mp3 a moment to download and enjoy!

In the end, A Child's Guide to Innocence was a beautiful production and we are equal parts proud of the show and grateful for the hard work and dedication of cast and staff, as well as the warm audience response.  Here are photos from the production:

The Freaks Club cast announced!

Our next exciting production is the world premiere of the hip new musical The Freaks Club opening June 13 and playing at Portland Stage studio theater in the heart of downtown Portland!  Al D'Andrea directs and Kellie Moody musical directs a talented cast, featuring:

Jackie Theoharis as plucky, fish-faced Anna

Autumn Pound as blind (but sassy) Cookie

Ben Robinson as haphephobic (look it up!) Jake

Andrew Shepard as incurable geek Skunk

Margen Soliman as queen bee Linda

Zac Stern as BMOC Anthony

Alan Forest McLucas as endearing dad David

Laura Houck as "crazy lady" geneticist Dr Lily

The Freaks Club recounts the story of 18-year-old Anna - a girl suffering from a rare condition that makes her skin appear as fish scales - and her journey to a remote island community to receive experimental treatments for her disease. A new kid in the local school, Anna immediately bonds with the other "freaks" blind, sassy Cookie, emotionally-damaged Jake, and sweet but hapless Skunk. Once Anna's "cure" is complete, she is stunned to find she is no longer a "fish" but a real "dish"! The popular kids sweep her away and Anna breaks with the club, but her dream-come-true soon turns into a nightmare. Anna must then discover her own self worth and the value of friendship. She ultimately finds her way back to her own true face and to the friends who, she realizes, she will always need.

THE FREAKS CLUB runs June 13 - 23

at Portland Stage studio theater
