Thanks to your support, we are one step closer to hunger free schools in California! Yesterday,
SB 138 (McGuire) passed out of Senate Appropriations Committee with a unanimous, bipartisan 7-0 vote!
SB 138 would more effectively identify low-income students and increase access to school meals by ensuring that the Department of Education and school districts identify students eligible for free and reduced-price school meals with verified Medi-Cal income data and by calling for very high poverty schools to serve breakfast and lunch free of charge to all students.

Yesterday,
Senate Appropriations passed SB 782 (Skinner) with a unanimous, bi-partisan vote. SB 782 would establish a grant program to incentivize public schools to serve more California-grown food in freshly prepared school meals. CFPA and our partners, NextGen, are grateful for your support of California-grown food in freshly made school meals.
Thanks to your action, SB 782 now heads to the Senate Floor, with a vote expected on Tuesday, May 30. Organizations spanning representation from education to agriculture and health to anti-hunger came together to encourage the state to incentivize school districts to buy fresh, California-grown ingredients.
