SB 138 (McGuire) - Count Me In For School Meals
SB 138 (McGuire) will expand Medi-Cal direct certification for school meals statewide, and ensure that children in very-high poverty schools have optimal access to school meals. SB 138 would improve school districts' ability to identify low-income students, reduce child hunger, and support student success with nutritious school meals.

AB 164 (Arambula) - California Leads to Meet Food Needs
AB 164 (Arambula) will create flexibility for California Food Assistance to be provided through the CalFresh EBT system. Now is the time for California to be proactive. AB 164 would enable the State to respond to emergencies with food aid; to provide supplemental benefits that address health disparities; or to react to harmful changes in federal SNAP eligibility.

CFPA
is conducting an online and telephone survey to learn more about the food and nutrition needs of pregnant women and families with children under the age of 5.
Responses will inform CFPA's future advocacy toward improving access to WIC and CalFresh.
We will be collecting responses until 5pm on Saturday, February 18th.
Survey respondents will be entered into a $100 raffle! Please share our survey widely with your network, clients, families, and friends.

Long-time board member, Sarah Samuels, left an indelible mark on California Food Policy Advocates (CFPA). Sarah was a leader in conducting and applying research to shape sound nutrition policies. She was also a supportive mentor of new public health professionals. To honor these contributions and to continue her work, CFPA has established the Sarah Samuels Public Health Fellowship.
