A Message from OAI Managing Partner, Steve Orr

We know that many of you are excited to greet the new year for its opportunities and possibilities.  Although the 2012 economy remains uncertain, the unknowns should not prevent your organization from supporting its mission.

OAI believes that in a time of uncertainty, you must step back, review the assets of your organization, define your attainable goals, set quantitative benchmarks for measuring your goal progress and really take the time to plan for the future.  This will assure your Board of Directors and stakeholders that you deserve to have one.

If you do not know where to start with this process, OAI is here to help.

We provide in-depth audits and analysis of your existing or potential fundraising programs.  We can facilitate dynamic strategic planning sessions that result in actionable and realistic plans for your organization.  Once the plan is in place, we can either counsel your staff in how to manage the plan or we can become your development team.

So far this year, several organizations have begun to work with OAI in this capacity.  We would like to introduce them to you.

The 92nd Street Y (92Y), a premiere-cultural institution and community center in New York City, engaged OAI to assess their ability to launch a major campaign and to assemble a comprehensive and actionable campaign plan.  This three-tiered campaign will enable 92Y to make capital improvements, expand their annual fund and grow their endowment.  In order to develop the campaign plan, OAI conducted a development audit that analyzed 92Y's organizational structure and fundraising efforts.  From this investigation OAI compiled tactical recommendations on 92Y's greatest opportunities for growth in philanthropic support.

Additionally, OAI refined a campaign case statement and tested its impact through interviews with key 92Y stakeholders.  OAI is now working on a campaign readiness assessment that will help determine 92Y's strategy in launching, sustaining and successfully completing this campaign.

St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School, a Nursery through Grade 8 Day School in Washington, DC, is just a few months away from the Ribbon-Cutting for their first regulation-size athletic field.  This completes the first phase of their expansion planning and the $8 million capital campaign to support it titled A Broader Vision: The Campaign for St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School.  The successful completion of this phase is the first step toward realizing St. Patrick's vision to become the first coeducational Nursery through Grade 12 Episcopal school in the nation's capital.

St. Patrick's retained OAI in January 2012 to conduct a campaign and development program assessment.  As part of the assessment, OAI will conduct interviews with key stakeholders to test perceptions of the current state of the campaign and fundraising efforts at St. Patrick's.  The assessment will also aid St. Patrick's in preparing for a transition to new leadership of their development office.  In addition to the assessment, OAI will help St. Patrick's campaign leadership successfully close out the campaign.

Progressive Life Center, Inc. (PLC) was founded in 1983 to improve the delivery of mental health services to children, youth and families. Presently, PLC offers treatment and traditional foster care, kinship care, parenting classes, youth diversion, organizational development and family preservation services for at-risk children, youth and families in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Ghana.

PLC hired OAI in January 2012 to assess their current fundraising operations, identify opportunities to diversify their funding sources and assist with the creation of PLC's development office.  OAI is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of PLC's fundraising history and current capabilities as well as interviewing key stakeholders to identify PLC's greatest opportunities for growth in philanthropic support.  The ultimate goal is for PLC to increase its contributed income so it can launch a new educational services program.

We hope to hear from you about how your organization's plans are progressing for 2012 and beyond.

Best wishes for a good year,

Steve
