"OCHS taught me

the value of independence, timeliness, looking the

part; It also boosted

 my self-esteem and

confidence, particularly

as a woman, to deal

with a variety of

difficult situations

with aplomb."

Julia DiNardo
Class of 1999

Julia DiNardo graduated from Oakland Catholic in 1999 and went on to study at New York University and Columbia University. During her time as a student, Julia was involved with Lacrosse, Tennis, Italian Club and Women's Awareness Group. Also while at OCHS, Julia received the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Award, which she says, "Instilled in me the sense that I could truly be a leader."

Julia says that she has always wanted to work in fashion. Her innate desire to ask questions and learn from the answers has been a key component of her success in the industry. Julia is the founder and designer of

Pittsburgh-based line "Neighbor Teaze",

a beauty and fashion writer (her own site is FashionPulseDaily.com; she has also worked for ELLE, GQ, Redbook, and with J.Crew, Target, Sunglass Hut, Maybelline, and COVERGIRL amongst others), ia a marketing and social media consultant, and is a professor at New York University and Laboratory Institute of Merchandising College.

The foundation that Oakland Catholic High School faculty provided Julia had an important impact on her career path. Julia says, "It really is hard to pick just one favorite teacher; Cindy McNulty, George Rudolph, Dr. Giovanni Puppo, Rebecca Newlin. I think that these teachers always made us feel like adults, but brought a light hearted element to their teachings, so that it always felt approachable. I think they also helped, in their various areas, to develop my critical thinking skills and bring them to a new level."

On Oakland Catholic celebrating 25 years, Julia says, "I was there when we celebrated ten! I think it is truly a nod to the dedicated faculty and administration for giving the school 200% all of the time, as well as the places that alumnae have gone in this world. What a great feat, and I look forward to witnessing the accomplishments of my fellow OCHS alumnae in the future! It's really easy to get caught up in your own routine and busy lives, but it's important to keep in mind that we must support our fellow OCHS alumnae!"
