Footstool Weaving

Weave a diamond pattern onto a footstool frame using smoked flat reed. Learn how to  translate a drafted pattern into a woven pattern, while learning the characteristics of the material. Done in small batch runs, these handsome footstool frames are

Learn about the waterbased woodblock method that has its fascinating origins in 18th century Japan, now growing in worldwide popularity. Get a feel for the  hand crafted tools and materials that give this medium its unique character.

Pumpkin Dioramas

Carve a pumpkin and create an imaginative scene with figurines and 'found' materials within your pumpkin.A unique alternative to the traditional jack-o-latern.  Put your pumpkin diorama out for your community to enjoy on halloween night!  

Bring  your own diorama objects if desired.

Acrylic Painting

Level 1: Thick & Thin

This four week course empowers the beginner painter to become familiar with methods of manipulating acrylic paints. Students will explore traditional methods of glazing and impasto painting in order to experiment with the opacity and translucency of paints. Artist Instructor: Corrie Burrows

 

 

 

Intro to Hardcover

Bookbinding
Mondays 7-10pm
3 weeks, November 5th-19th
135 + hst  

 

This course will take participants through the steps to create their own hardcover book from start to finish. This will include punching the pages, sewing the book block, constructing the cover and preparing a book cloth. Participants will take home their own 80 page hand-bound book at the end of the course. Book cloth will be provided, but if you have a swatch of cotton weave fabric that you like, bring it in and we'll turn it into your book cover!

Mokuhanga Nengajou
(Japanese New Years Cards)

Saturday November 17th & 24th
10:30-4pm
$180 + hst

All materials included. Good quality, authentic tools provided: carving tools, hake brushes, barens.
Create a Japanese New Year Card and at the same time learn the basics of Mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock print) with instructor Elizabeth Forrest.
Learn reduction carving and printing with at least 2 colours using waterbased pigments to create a small edition of new years cards. Please come with a "snake" idea or sketch. Plan for a 14 x 9 cm image. Week one is for carving, week two is for learning to print.
