Ohio State Professor to Lecture on "Community as catalyst: The Case of Olivetti, 1933-1960"

Kay  Bea  Jones is a professor of architecture at the Knowlton School at The Ohio State University.  Jones has been honored with the Eero Saarinen Memorial Award, the Wendy Elizabeth Blanning Award, and an American Association of University Women Fellowship.  Jones' talk will draw on her recent research, which asks: What if an industry sets the highest standards for product and building design, corporate competition, and culture? Imagine the impact on the lives of workers and their families if an employer provides elegant housing, child care centers flooded with natural light, walkable social centers staffed with medical professionals, and nearby, coastal and mountain recreation centers with innovative regional planning, all supported by an abbreviated work week. This was Olivetti's modern Italy.
